Mookie Johnson hosted the first tournament named after his screen name, more than two years ago, as a way to get his home game gang together during the week. Like most poker-playing degenerates, twice a week just wasn't enough to satisfy his group. Playing at Full Tilt meant they wouldn't have to leave the house, piss off their wives or husbands, or drink a little too much.

This Sunday, April 12th, NBC will begin airing the 2008 National Heads-Up Poker Championship that was filmed at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas. The tournament began on February 28th with a pairing party and action-packed bracket-style heads-up action that lasted from February 29th through March 2nd.Each show will air on NBC at noon EST every Sunday from April 13 through May 18.

A charity tournament has been schedule to take place on April 23rd to benefit the Children’s Tumor Foundation. Full Tilt Poker will host the tournament at 8pm EST, and several notable professional poker players have committed to play.The no-limit hold’em tournament will have a $5 buy-in with an additional $5 fee, the latter of which will be donated to the charity.

For the fifth year, Hillel’s 5th Annual Celebrity Charity Poker Tournament will bring together some of poker and Hollywood’s finest for a great cause. The Bicycle Casino will host the tournament on Sunday, April 13th at noon in the Grand Ballroom.Admission in the form of the buy-in is only $150, and inexpensive rebuys will be available during the first hour of play.

Jennifer Harman is an advocate for animals, most specifically in the form of her support of the Nevada Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (NSPCA). Last year, she hosted a charity tournament and raised over $130,000 for the no-kill animal shelter. Last month, she raised $30,000 via an online charity tournament on Full Tilt Poker. And she is prepared to do more.

It is no surprise that the 2008 PartyPoker.com Poker Nations Cup will have an interesting line-up for all participating countries, but Team USA might be the most entertaining of all. Montel Williams has been asked to join the team, and he gladly accepted the invitation.

The Kentucky Derby Poker Championship has been scheduled for Saturday, May 3rd at Caesars Indiana. Phil Hellmuth, Jr. and Robert Williamson III will host the celebrity charity poker tournament to raise money for several non-profit organizations – Red Cross/Red Crescent Climate Centre, Health and Climate Foundation, and Robby Albarado Foundation.

The Playboy Mansion is set to host the Third Annual Celebrity Poker Tournament and Casino Night on May 17th. The mansion, located in the Los Angeles area, will be prepared to welcome numerous celebrities and poker pros, and the night’s festivities will benefit the Urban Health Institute (UHI).General admission for the evening is $500, which includes all food and beverages.

Todd Brunson and Jennifer Harman have done this, even though they are two of the most popular players who tend to stay away from the spotlight in most cases.

Prevention Connections has joined with the Poker Players Alliance (PPA) to promote its First Annual Texas Hold’em Charity Tournament in Richmond, Virginia on April 26. All proceeds will go to efforts to prevent and reduce tobacco use through education programs offered by Prevention Connections.
