The final table of the main event this year started with more of an international flair than probably ever before. Only four Americans were among the final nine who started the day in competition for the title of world champion. Usually, the best ESPN can hope for during the main event is one, maybe two, well-known players at its featured table. With the fields so large and the top professionals randomly spread out among the tables, ESPN will take a Doyle Brunson or a Phil Hellmuth and a cast of unknowns and run with that one.

Few will experience the dream of winning the main event, but many get to experience the thrill of making the money in the tournament. Today on Day 3, the time had come to separate those going home with nothing and those going home with at least $20,320.

It's been a good World Series of Poker main event for many of the tournament's former winners. Of 17 former champions playing this year, only six were eliminated in their respective Day 1's, with three more put out early in Day 2A. Not many of the winners still in it have monster stacks, but many of them are hanging around average.

You have two chances left to satellite your way into the Main Event!!! I spoke with Michael Slater, Assistant Supervisor in the Amazon Room on duty today and he gave me the lowdown. The Mega Satellite started at 9:00PM. Sunday evening and the line starts to get very long around 8 p.m. They allowed players to register all the way up until 9:30 p.m.

Al King sat on a stack of 73k in chips, good for a top ten place halfway through Day 1. The retired pipefitter from Canada starting playing poker about three years ago. "We lived in Washington state a bit before we moved to San Diego after I retired. I'm living the dream life." Al is married with one son still in Canada, and he has one grandchild.

It's possible some players are chasing losses, and the winning players are there to scoop it all up. Whatever the reasons, as the main event nears, the games - and stacks! - at the Rio are getting bigger; tables are breaking later and later.

WSOP Media Director Nolan Dalla announced the latest logistics for the World Series of Poker Main Event, including specifics of play for each day. As reported earlier, there will be four Day 1's. Each of these days will start at noon, and play will proceed for six levels.

Part of what drives us to the poker table are the interesting people we meet and the friends we make while playing a game we love. Poker is a game open to people of all colors and creeds. It's truly a melting pot of cultures that meet on the green felt.And then there are those other times when we find ourselves across the poker table from a person we just can't stand.

Today was the big day! The 50K HORSE Event finally dwindled down to 8 players when Gabe Kaplan was sent packing and they sat down to play at the Final Table. I rushed over to the Rio as soon as I got off work and immediately noticed that parking was at a maximum. I've never had to work so hard to find a spot.
