To put chips into the pot.
Belly Buster
A draw to fill an inside straight; a gut shot.
Bet Odds
The odds you get as a result of evaluating the number of callers to a raise.
Bankroll
The amount of money you have.
Backraise
A re-raise from a player who originally called.
Backdoor
Making a hand other than the expected one. Example: straight instead of the intended (and more possible) flush.
Bad Beat
When a hand is beaten by a lucky draw.
Bet the Pot
When a player bets the total value of the pot.
Bicycle or Bike
A straight that is A-2-3-4-5. Also known as wheel.
Big Blind
A designated amount that is placed by the player sitting in the second position, clockwise from the dealer, before any cards are dealt. (Players joining a game in progress must post a Big Blind, but may do so from any position.)
Big Slick
The Ace and King card combination.
Blank
A useless card to a player's hand.
Blind
The bet(s) that must be made by the two players sitting directly to the dealer's left. The blinds are posted before any cards are dealt.
Blind Raise
A raise without looking at the hand.
Bluff
To bet or raise with a hand that is unlikely to be the best hand.
Boardcards
The cards that are dealt face-up in a poker game for all players to see. In flop games, five cards are dealt face-up in the center of the table. In Seven Card Stud, four cards are dealt face-up in front of each player.
Boat
Synonym of a full house.
Bottom Pair
When a player uses the lowest card on the flop to make a pair with one of his own cards.
Broadway
An Ace high straight (A-K-Q-J-10).
Bring-In
The forced bet made on the first round of betting by the player who is dealt the lowest card showing in Seven Card Stud and Stud 8 or Better. In Razz (Lowball) it is the highest card showing
Bring It In
To start the betting on the first round.
Broomcorn's Uncle
A player who antes himself broke.
Bullet
An ace.
Bullets
A pair of Aces.
Bump
To raise.
Button
Also known as the dealer button, it is a small round disk that is moved from player to player in a clockwise direction following each hand, to signify the dealer of each hand.
Buy-In
The minimum amount of money required from a player to sit down in a particular poker game.
By Me
An expression meaning to pass or check.
Bust Out
To be eliminated from a tournament.
Busted Hand
A worthless hand.
Buy
To play the hand agressively in the hope of discouraging other players to bet.
Bust a Player
To eliminate a player from the game or tournament.
Bust
A hand that has failed to improve as the player hoped and thus lost.
Bury Card
A card taken from the top of the deck and placed in the middle.
Burn Card
A card dealt face down before the card dealing starts.
Burn
To discard the top card of the deck before dealing.
Buried Pair
In Stud games, a pair in the hole.
Bubbled
To be the eliminated in a tournament before the prize-money.
Boxed Card
An exposed card in the deck when cards must be face down.
Boss
At the betting, a strongest hand at the table.
Blow Back
To lose all the (or most) of the money you have won.
Blocker
A card you need, but which is already in another player's hand.
Blistering
Marking cards with an intention to cheat.
Blind Robber
A player who wins the chips without playing the hand, i.e. forces other players to fold just after the blind.
Big Pair
A Pair with a value of 10 or greater.
Bleed
Win large amounts of money a little sum at a time, from either a game or a particular player.
Big Dog
An almost certain loser with minimal winning chances.
Big Bobtail
Open-ended 4-card straight flush.
Bet the Limit
To bet the maximum amount allowed.
Betting Stakes
The money limits of all bets and raises allowed in a game.
Bet in the Dark
To announce a bet before cards are dealt or without looking at your hand.
Bet Into
bet instead of checking, after another player has bet agressively.
Bet for Value
Bet with an intention of getting called
Bet Blind
Bet without looking at the cards.
Beat the Board
Or Beat the Table. To win. To have the best hand on the table.
Behind
a) Losing. b) Acting after
Behind a Log
A situation in which a dominating player is far ahead of a game is playing only superior hands.
Barn
Slang for a Full House.
Battle of the Blinds
A situation where everyone folds to the players who have forced bets.
Bay and a Gray
A $6 bet made with a red $5 chip and a white $1 chip.
Backer
A non-playing person who finances a player.
Bad Beat Jackpot
A bad beat jackpot is offered by a poker room when a very good hand loses to an even better one.
Back-to-back
A pair in 5-card stud
Backdoor Flush
A situation when a player has three cards that would make a flush, but the turn and the river have still to be drawn.
Backdoor Straight
A situation when a player has three cards that would make a straight, but the turn and the river have still to be drawn.
Back Into a Hand
To draw cards that make a hand that is different from the hand you were originally trying to make.
