Using Notes

Almost all online poker rooms have note taking facilities. But how are they best used? and can you gain an advantage over your opponents when you do use them?

You remember the nickname, maybe the avatar, but you cannot recall how 'Pker747' with the aeroplane image plays. Was he the maniac who tilted away five hundred bucks a few weeks back? Is he a rock, playing nothing but the top end premium cards? If only you could remember!

Well, there is no need to despair over your decreasing memory capacity. Start using player notes. Especially useful if you are loyal to only a handful of sites, but still usable if you flit between a dozen or more poker rooms, notes offer to 'remember' for you. Assuming you make the effort to enter some text when the time arises.

So 'Pker747' turned out to be that tilting maniac. In your notes you should write something to that effect, there is little point in being abusive in your notes, simply describe your opponents playing style and any instances that caused a certain reaction. Perhaps they are hot headed and easy to upset with a few 'choice' words... Then you'll know what to write!

You should also use notes to 'tag' fish-like players, inexperienced players and tougher opponents you may wish to avoid in future.

Notes are there to help you, but be aware that everybody can make notes on everyone else. This is one reason to 'mix up' your playing style, as your opponents could well have notes on you!
