"We believe that there is a market for automated poker throughout our properties," said Harrah's table games Chief Gerry Tuthill in a statement. "Poker continues to boom and many players who have learned the game enjoy the fast paced action PokerPro tables offer."
"We are honored to have the opportunity to work with Harrah's," said Lou White, Chief Executive Officer of PokerTek. "Harrah's has a long track record of successfully launching gaming innovations and we believe this transaction will benefit the PokerPro brand."
While there will be no PokerPro tables in use as part of the WSOP 2007, White feels that the technology is a natural fit for the series, particularly the PokerPro heads-up version, which meshes well with the addition of a heads-up event to the World Series of Poker.
"I believe you might see our tables at the 2008 WSOP," White said.
PokerTek spokesman Chris Halligan was particularly excited about one aspect of the Harrah's deal, the ability to use the World Series of Poker brand on PokerTek tables.
"The WSOP branding opportunity is particularly huge to me because more and more players are becoming aware of automated poker and its benefits, and PokerTek being on the WSOP team is enormous for credibility and perception," said Halligan.
For several years PokerTek has offered World Poker Tour branded tables as part of an arrangement with the WPT. The WPT-themed tables can be found on Carnival Cruise line ships, among other locations. WPT Enterprises Executive Chairman Lyle Berman is a member of the PokerTek board of directors.
"We welcome the opportunity to extend the reach of the World Series of Poker through this arrangement," said WSOP Commissioner Jeffrey Pollack. "The WSOP is the number one brand in poker, and PokerTek is a welcome addition to our team."
"The World Series of Poker is a prestigious brand and we're excited to work with it," said James Crawford, President of PokerTek. "To package the WSOP brand with PokerPro products should accelerate player adoption and interest in automated poker."
PokerTek PokerPro tables can be found at casinos all over the US, including Hard Rock casinos in Florida, Carnival Cruises, Greektown and Motor City Casinos in Detroit, and the Hollywood Park Casino, which has a dedicated PokerPro room for the automated tables.
