Harrah’s Adds a Fourth Day 1 for the Main Event

As the record crowds continue to stream into the Rio, Harrah's has added a fourth Day 1 to ensure there are no significant operational issues during the premier event of the WSOP, the Main Event.

"We want to ensure that we're able to provide a comfortable experience for all players who want to enter the Main Event," said Jack Effel, WSOP Tournament Dirctor. "Adding a fourth start day will allow us to do that."

This change means players will be split into four first days (6-9 July). The 9th was originally scheduled as a day off, but play will proceed to two Day 2's (10-11 July) rather than the previously scheduled single Day 2.

There are currently 2,080 players registered for the Main Event, and this change reflects more the significant operational issues at the World Series more than a predictor of the size of the field.

The drivers for the change appear to be to prevent play in the Rio Poker Room, in the casino, and in the auxiliary tent. This should also eliminate alternates from the Main Event, leveling the playing field. It will be interesting to see how many players there will be on Day 1D vs. the first three, as well as how long they will play each day.

The Main Event schedule:

6 July: Day 1A
7 July: Day 1B
8 July: Day 1C
9 July: Day 1D
10 July: Day 2A
11 July: Day 2B
12 July: Day 3
13 July: Day 4
14 July: Day 5
15 July: Day 6
16 July: Day 7
17 July: Final Table
