Celebrities descend on WSOP

As has come to be the case in recent years, a handful of celebrities showed up at the World Series of Poker main event to test their skill. From actors to athletes, a number of stars were among the 6,358 entrants into the main event and some of them lived to play into Day 2. Here's a list of some of the more notables
Jason Alexander
- The former "Seinfeld" star finished Day 1C with 41,000 in chips.
Hank Azaria - A good actor in his own right but better known for voicing a multitude of characters on "The Simpsons", Azaria busted on Day 1A.

Jose Canseco - The former baseball slugger was eliminated on Day 1when he called Amir Vahedi's all-in on a flop of {K-Spades}{Q-Hearts}{10-Spades}. Canseco showed A-J for Broadway, but Vahedi held {A-Spades}{7-Spades} and filled his nut flush on the river.

Shannon Elizabeth - The "American Pie" actress is now better known for her poker skill, especially after making the semifinals of the National Heads-Up Championship earlier this year. She had no luck on Day 1C, busting early.

Salvatore "Sully" Erna - Lead singer for Godsmack, Erna made it to Day 2 for the second year in a row. Last year, he finished 731st in the main event, good for a cash. He has 39,800 in chips going into Day 2B on Wednesday.

Brad Garrett - Garrett was eliminated just after the first break of Day 2A when his K-K ran into A-A. (I can sympathize as I was eliminated in the same fashion in last year's main event.) On Day 1, he won a $2,000 last-longer bet with his friend and former "Everybody Loves Raymond" co-star Ray Romano when Romano was eliminated. Garrett will donate his winnings to the Maximum Hope Foundation for families with terminally ill children.

Norm MacDonald - The comedian, playing in his second main event, was eliminated on Day 1.

Tobey Maguire - The webslinger, who has partaken in many poker tournaments in recent years, still hasn't achieved much success in the WSOP, heading for the rail in the first day again. *Correction, Spidey is in day three of the main event*

Nelly - The four-time Grammy winner was quickly eliminated in his quest for his first WSOP bling.

Todd Phillips - Director of such movies as "Old School" and "Road Trip", he started Day 2A with nearly 120,000 in chips.

Ray Romano -Romano was eliminated shortly after midnight on Day 1 when his pocket queens ran into aces.

Maxime Talbot - Pittsburgh Penguins center Maxime Talbot told reporters "I suck at poker," as he was eliminated on Day 1. The hockey star won his way into the main event by beating other hockey stars such as Martin Brodeur, Simon Gagne, and Sheldon Souray in a private qualifying tournament.

Antonio Tarver - The light heavyweight world boxing champion had one of the best quotes of Day 1 when he was given the microphone and told players this would be their only chance to knock him out. The statement proved true when he was knocked out on Day 1.

Jennifer Tilly - Like Elizabeth, she's now known as much for her poker prowess as her acting ability. That didn't pan out for her this year, however, as she was eliminated on Day 1.

Montel Williams - Wearing a USS Eisenhower cap, the motivational speaker and talk show host had a large stack for much of Day 1 before slipping to finish the day as one of the short stacks. The 22-year Navy veteran busted early on Day 2A when he called with a wheel and nut flush draw with {A-Spades}{4-Diamonds} on a board of {J-Hearts}{3-Spades}{2-Spades}{J-Spades} and missed on the river.
