Doyle Brunson Teams Up With Leonardo DiCaprio

Doyle Brunson is known and respected in the poker community for many things. His contributions to the game are numerous, beginning with the trailblazing Super System and continuing with his online gaming site DoylesRoom.com. The legendary tales about the days of road gambling have been told amongst poker players for years, and his input on the evolution of poker has been priceless. His dedication to poker in general has been inspirational - always available for television appearance and fan photos and autographs, and willing to share his experiences and advice with younger generations of players.

Doyle Brunson is not known for his political views or his opinions on worldly issues. While his opinions about the UIGEA and the politicians who passed the law were no secret - he admitted his disappointment in the Republican Party during a poker table discussion on an episode of "High Stakes Poker" - he isn't exactly a spokesperson for issues like global warming... Errr, until now.

An e-mail from the Doyle Brunson Poker Network was sent to customers and players on Monday, September 10th that began, "Doyle Brunson, in partnership with Leonardo DiCaprio, would like to take this opportunity to present to you a project that has been extremely important to everyone at the Doyle Brunson Poker Network. Global warming and the negative effects it has on mankind is an issue that we have taken very seriously. In an effort to help educate poker players as well as the rest of the world about this important issue, Doyle Brunson and Leonardo DiCaprio have partnered to produce the feature film environmental documentary entitled ‘The 11th Hour' which is now being distributed worldwide by Warner Bros. Studios."

The message came after news that Doyle Brunson had become a financial partner in the film, an agreement evidently finalized during his recent trip to Europe to promote DoylesRoom.com. With the film having recently been released to movie theaters nationwide, the e-mail urges people to support the movie by seeing it and doing something to help save our planet. "We are confident that if you understand the issues as we have learned ourselves, you will become as impassioned as we are to do something about it," the message stated.

The documentary is subtitled, "Turn Mankind's Darkest Hour Into Its Finest" and is produced and narrated by award-winning actor and outspoken environmentalist Leonardo DiCaprio. The purpose of the film is to make viewers aware of the dangers of global warming and inspire a shift in human activity to promote the restoration of the environment. They are aiming to promote action on individual, community, state, national, and international levels that will lead to a sustainable future.

Written and directed by Leila Conners Petersen and Nadia Conners, "The 11th Hour" is produced by Chuck Castleberry, Brian Gerber, Leonardo DiCaprio, and Conners Petersen. Brunson is also credited as one of the executive producers on the film, which describes the last moment when change will be possible and how the world arrives at that moment. Ultimately, it discusses what the people of the world can do to change that course today. Experts participating in the film include former Soviet Prime Minister Mikhail Gorbachev, renowned scientist Stephen Hawking, former head of the CIA R. James Woolsey, and over 50 leading scientists, thinkers, and leaders from around the globe.

DiCaprio spoke about the film in its promotional material: "We, as citizens, leaders, consumers and voters, have the opportunity to help integrate ecology into governmental policy and every day living standards. During this critical period of human history, healing the damage of industrial civilization is the task of our generation. Our response depends on the conscious evolution of our species and this response could very well save this unique blue planet for future generations."

And Brunson's e-mail statement included the following plea: We don't know how things are in your life, but no matter what's going on, this planet has got you beat. We've made it sick, and it, in turn, is sick and tired of us. We have the floods, fires, droughts, heat waves, melting ice caps, and endangered or extinct species to prove it."

"The 11th Hour" is currently in theaters nationwide. For more information visit the film's website . To find out how to take action and help the environment today, visit here .
