WCOOP Event #21

Many players consider HORSE to be the truest test of poker skill, mixing five different games in one event. Many other players consider a higher buy-in to create a more skillful field. PokerStars WCOOP Event #21, the $5,000 HORSE tournament certainly gave those players the best of both worlds, with a big buy-in mixed format featuring 177 of the biggest players in the poker world.

By the time the final table was set; eight players were left to chase their WCOOP bracelet dream and the $225,000 first place money. The chip stacks looked like this as the final table kicked off -

Seat 1: tj_trail (285838 in chips)
Seat 2: svesken (246331 in chips)
Seat 3: BUS02 (116856 in chips)
Seat 4: TwinkleStar (95043 in chips)
Seat 5: BOBALOB (268092 in chips)
Seat 6: hairos (382407 in chips)
Seat 7: ROXY24 (170189 in chips)
Seat 8: Cordelia (205244 in chips)

With an exceptionally short stack, TwinkleStar raised on third street with ({8-Clubs}{4-Clubs})-{8-Diamonds}, then called a re-raise from BOBALOB, who had a Queen in the door. TwinkleStar hit running nines on fourth and fifth street, but BOBALOB made Queens up by seventh street, and TwinkleStar was busted in 8th place for $22,657.

It wasn't long after TwinkleStar's exit that the second shortest stack found all his chips in the middle. BUS02 had {A-Diamonds}{K-Hearts}{7-Clubs}{3-Spades} showing, but never had to show his hole cards as he ended up the odd man out in a three way pot with hairos and BOBALOB. BOBALOB made an eight-low for half the pot and hairos grabbed the high hand with a straight flush, sending BUS02 home in 7th place for $31,860.

That set the stage for a 30-minute break and a return to Limit Hold ‘Em. The final six chip stacks looked like this -

Seat 1: tj_trail (341638 in chips)
Seat 2: svesken (363231 in chips)
Seat 5: BOBALOB (430563 in chips)
Seat 6: hairos (443835 in chips)
Seat 7: ROXY24 (97889 in chips)
Seat 8: Cordelia (92844 in chips)

ROXY24 was looking good to double through tj_trail on the turn with J-9 on a board of {J-Clubs}{7-Diamonds}{K-Spades}{3-Diamonds}, but the Ace on the river made tj_trail's {A-Diamonds}{10-Diamonds} good for the win and sent ROXY24 to the rail in 6th place (41,595). Tj_trail claimed another victim when a flush on the river crippled Cordelia. Cordelia was all in on the big blind the next hand and busted in 5th for $55,755. Tj_trail used the hold‘em round to build a big chip lead, as stacks looked like this as the Omaha Hi/Lo round started -

Seat 1: tj_trail (859527 in chips)
Seat 2: svesken (303462 in chips)
Seat 5: BOBALOB (187407 in chips)
Seat 6: hairos (419604 in chips)

As the Omaha round continued, BOBALOB watched his stack slide until he finally got all in with {K-Hearts}{K-Spades}{J-Diamonds}{6-Spades}. Tj_trail called with A-A-J-x, and flopped Broadway with the board reading {K-Clubs}{Q-Clubs}{10-Clubs}. The board didn't pair, and BOBALOB was busted in 4th for $71,685.

Throughout the Omaha round, hairos picked up chips steadily and took over the chip lead as tj_trail dropped all the way to third place. Finally, in the Razz round, tj_trail was beaten down further and further until he got all his chips in with a 10-low to svesken's 6-low and busted in 3rd place ($103,987).

The chip stacks were close going into heads up play, and it only took hairos a few minutes to pull even with svesken. The players made a deal for $176,921 each, leaving the bracelet and $26,000 on the table for the eventual winner. It took another 30 minutes, but hairos eventually took apart svesken for the $26K and the bracelet after a marathon tournament.

Here are the final table finishes and payouts -

1. hairos (Denmark) $202,921.00
2. svesken (Denmark) $176,921.00
3. tj_trail (United States) $103,987.50
