Charity Report: Simon Poker Tournament for Dublin’s Homeless

For the second year in a row, Padraig Parkinson's annual Simon Poker Tournament will be held in conjunction with the European Poker Tour Dublin events in November 2007. The tournament is held to benefit the Simon Dublin homeless charity and will take place on November 3rd.

Last year's event was quite successful in raising awareness and approximately €50,000. Over 200 players turned out for the poker tournament and festivities with poker pro Noel Furlong winning the event. He has vowed to return in 2007 to defend his title in what is anticipated to be a star-studded charity tournament.

John Duthie, founder, CEO and Executive Producer of the EPT, is a supporter of the Simon Poker Tournament and is playing a major role in organizing the event around the EPT in Dublin, along with primary organizer Parkinson. They will also be playing in the tournament.

The buy-in will be €300+€30 for the freeze out, and one-third of the buy-ins will be donated to the Simon Dublin charity with the remainder of the funds to comprise the prize pool.

In addition, Marty Wilson will host an auction, and other festivities will surround the poker tournament. Many players are already looking forward to the tournament based on stories from last year's events.

Players can buy in directly at the Merrion Casino Club in Ballsbridge, and there are qualifying satellite tournaments taking place online at PokerStars , 888 , and Green Joker Poker.
