Everest Poker Avalanche Hit the High Seas

In a promotion in the early months of 2007, Everest Poker has announced that the Avalanche event has finally concluded and was a resounding success. The ultimate winner was Matthias Lotze and his victory was worth $233,000 in prize money.

Players competed online at Everest Poker to win seats in the final tournament from which the top ten players would be sent to a live venue to play the final table, though it was also possible to buy in to the tournament for $530 + $30. There was an additional way to earn a seat into the final event; by referring eight friends to sign up with Everest Poker, a seat would be awarded to the referring player. With the tournament being promoted as a $1,000,000 guaranteed event, players were doing everything to get their opportunity to participate.

The venue was kept secret until the last possible moment, and when the final ten players were left, it was ultimately revealed to be a Mediterranean Costa Cruise ship. The ten participants on board were from six countries, with the majority (four) being from France but the final heads-up players both represented Germany, all of whom walked away with a percentage of the prize pool.

The finishers were as follows:

Marc Perucca (France) 10th place $13,500
Didier Fabre (France) 9th place $18,500
Ann Wijns (Belgium) 8th place $21,200
Raoul Kristache (Norway) 7th place $31,800
Hubert Koeman (The Netherlands) 6th place $42,400
Eric Liu (Canada) 5th place $53,000
Stephan Gerin (France) 4th place $74,200
Frederic Pasquier (France) 3rd place $95,400
Matthias Lotze (Germany) 2nd place $127,200
Frank Stumpf (Germany) 1st place $233,300

Everest Poker property manager, Jonathan May, said, "There was some great gameplay on the cruise ship. It's always good to see our players compete live but this time, they really excelled... With this event wrapped up, it's time to get our players started with our Live the Dream promotion. We're giving ten players the chance to become a poker professional for a year!"
