Absolute Poker is scheduled to host a charity poker tournament on December 1st to benefit ONE, an organization dedicated to ending world poverty. The Saturday tournament was announced late last week through a press release from Absolute Poker.
The tournament is scheduled to begin at 20:30 eastern time, though late registration will be available. (Registration is already open.) The buy-in is $10 + $1 for 1,500 starting chips and the ten-minute blind levels will begin at 10-20. All of the fees collected will be donated to ONE, and Absolute Poker will match the amount raised in order to double the contribution. The $10 buy-in from each player will go toward the prize pool.
“When it comes to extreme poverty, too many people on this planet have been dealt a bad hand,” said David Clainer, senior vice president of Absolute Poker. “We’re inviting poker players to help put an end to poverty through a fundraiser that’s both rewarding and fun.”
Furthermore, the Absolute Poker website “urges everyone to support this essential cause.”
ONE is a campaign to eradicate poverty from the world. They believe that Americans, united as ONE, can help in the fight to do just that. By raising public awareness about global poverty, hunger, and disease in the world’s poorest countries, the non-profit, advocacy, and humanitarian organization is attempting to fight AIDS and poverty around the globe. ONE believes that U.S. leaders can do more to aid in efforts, such as allocate more of the national budget to provide health, education, clean water, and food to countries in need.
