The Motor City Casino will host the second Charity Texas Hold’em Poker Tournament featuring members of the Detroit Red Wings hockey team. With the success of the November 7th, 2007 event, organizers have scheduled the next one for March 3rd, 2008.
The buy-in for the poker tournament is $500, all of which will be donated to the Detroit Red Wings Foundation. Prizes for the event are donated from the Red Wings themselves, the grand prize being a trip for two to an away game during the 2007-08 season – actually traveling with the team. Second place is a complimentary suite for a Red Wings home game during the current season, and third place is four tickets to a Red Wings regular season game, plus a meet-and-greet session with some of the players after the game.
Details about the structure and rebuy options at the tournament have yet to be released.
The Detroit Red Wings Foundation has several projects to which they are dedicated. One is a community outreach program called the “Heart of Hockeytown,” which sponsors events and player appearances to assist in fundraising for various community organizations. The program targets the needs of children and disadvantaged residents of Detroit.
The foundation also aids charitable organizations that fight cancer and helps develop youth hockey leagues. In addition, they raise funds for the rehabilitation of Vladimir Konstantinov and Sergei Mnatsakanov – both severely injured in an auto accident just after the Red Wings won the Stanley Cup in 1997.
Events are held year-round by the Detroit Red Wings Foundation to raise money for various causes, and with the help of the Motor City Casino, the second poker tournament should be another of their many successes.
