On January 30th, Shawn Marion of the Phoenix Suns will host a charity poker tournament and other fundraising activities to benefit a variety of charities, including the Marine Corps Law Enforcement Foundation, Free Arts of Arizona, the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, Brad Pitt’s Global Green USA Project in New Orleans, and the Jerome Bettis: Bus Stops Here Foundation.
The event is being called the Hearts and Helmets tournament, and Marion will be joined by a plethora of sport’s stars, including his teammates from the Phoenix Suns as well as friends from the San Antonio Spurs. Also on hand will be Olympic gold medalist Dan O’Brien, Seinfeld star Patrick Warburton, and Major League Baseball’s Jermaine Dye, along with numerous television and film celebrities.
The price to attend is set at $1,000 per person, and all donations will be distributed to the numerous organizations for which Marion has chosen to benefit. In addition to the poker tournament, there will be silent and live auctions with such prizes as Suns and Spurs floor seats, a trip to the 2008 World Series of Poker in Las Vegas, a private jet vacation, celebrity dinners, autographed memorabilia, plasma televisions, and tickets to the Super Bowl.
Organizer Jeff Geller said, “This [event] allows you to sit next to and hang out with the stars. If you’ve got a chip and a chair, you’re in.”
The location for the event is being kept under wraps and disclosed only to those who register for the event. It is scheduled to take place on January 30th from 4:30pm to 1:30am, and the exact location will be disclosed upon registration.
