Aussie Millions Main Event Day 2

338 players made it through the three flights of Day 1 at the 2008 Aussie Millions. 98 of them made it through Day 2, with several of the biggest stacks at the beginning of the day making their way to the cash game tables before the last chips were shipped on Day 2. There were plenty of poker superstars left in the field, including Tony G, Clonie Gowen, Terrence Chan, Raymond Rahme, and Kenna James. One particularly ugly table draw put chip leader Andy Black at the same table as #2 chip stacks Phil Ivey, and 2005 World Champion Joe Hachem at the start of Day 2!

The bustouts were fast and furious to start Day 2, with Grame ‘Kiwi G’ Putt one of the first to be eliminated. Clonie Gowen, Ari ‘BodogAri’ Engel, and J.J. Liu were others headed to the rail on Day 2. Joe Hachem also busted early when he took a rough beat at the hands of Peter Ling. Hachem raised from the button, and Ling defended his big blind with {6-Spades}{6-Spades}. The flop came down 7-3-3 and put a spade draw out as well. Ling led out on the flop, Hachem raised, and Ling moved all in. Hachem called with 5-3, and was well ahead of Ling’s overpair. The turn and river both brought spades, and the four flush took out Hachem early on Day 2.

Several other poker superstars busted on Day 2, including Howard Lederer and John Juanda. Phil Ivey started the day with one of the biggest stacks, but found himself short in the middle of the day. On a board of {Q-Hearts}{4-Diamonds}{8-Spades}, Ivey raised Richard Teatum with {A-Spades}{4-Clubs}. Teatum pushed all in over the top with {8-Diamonds}{4-Hearts}, and Ivey made the call. No Ace came for Ivey, and he was eliminated. Tony G, Terrence Chan, Allen Cunningham, and Dag Martin Mikkelsen were also all eliminated on Day 2.

Poker blogger Eric ‘jeciimd’ Chadwick’s run at poker stardom came to an end on Day 2 as well. Chadwick won his entry into the Main Event via the Battle of the Blogger Tournaments hosted by Alcanthang on Full Tilt, and Chadwick made a strong run on Day 1 before getting his Aces cracked by {5-Spades}{3-Spades} to end his day. With three spades on the turn, Chadwick shoved all in with the over pair and a redraw to the nut flush holding the {A-Spades}, but no four flush for jeciimd, and he was eliminated.

While several online stars busted out on Day 2, Kevin ‘BeLOWaBOVe’ Saul made a big run, finishing up near the top of the leader board. Other players making moves included Mike Matusow, who doubled up with pocket Aces against pocket Queens after being card dead for all of the early rounds, and Kenna James, who finished the day in good position.

The top ten chip stacks looked like this as Day 2 drew to a close -

Matthew Lagarde – 490,000
Alexander Kostritsyn – 445,000
Dale Townsend – 420,000
Dusan Stoevski – 410,000
