Revenues for 888 Holdings increased 55% in its fourth quarter, indicating a strong rebound from its loss of U.S. players after the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act (UIGEA) passed in 2006 and forced the company out of the U.S. market. One of the major factors in 888’s increase seems to come from a larger number of women playing on the gaming site.
The company launched a site called 888Ladies that caters to female players. While the focus of the activity seems to be on bingo, of which several variations are available, there are other games like slots and table games, for the ladies. There is also a “Ladies Lounge” portion of the site that encourages community-building and information about the offerings of the site. 888 claims that hundreds of new customers are signing up daily.
In addition, 888 launched the World Poker Crown, a poker tournament with a $3 million guaranteed prize, along with handicapped sports betting for its Asian customers and expansions in Latin America. The group of sites under the 888 umbrella has grown to cater to niche markets, endeavors which have proven successful thus far.
Gigi Levy, 888 Holdings’ chief executive, said, “We are delighted with our results released today, our first full year of trading without any business in the U.S… This is a transformational year. These are very good results that we think show our strategy is delivering.”
In total, the past year reports a 36% increase in net gaming revenues for a total of $213 million for the year, even without the benefit of U.S. customers. And the growth continues, as the first quarter of 2008 is already showing a rise of 17% in new casino and poker players. Financial experts also predict more profits and high expectations for the site to continue its success and have rated the company as a “buy” on the stock market.
888 Holdings is based in Gibraltar and is the United Kingdom’s second largest online gaming company.
The site’s poker room, Pacific Poker, is available for download here. By using the bonus code “POKERWORKS” when making the first deposit, customers will receive a 60% bonus up to $100 of real money.
