On May 3rd, the Ladbrokes Poker European Ladies Championship (ELC) will return to the poker scene for its third year. Some of the top female players are already signing up – and others are winning their seats – to participate in the much-anticipated 50-player tournament.
The 2008 ELC offers its 50 players the opportunity to compete for the 15,000 Euro first prize, along with an all-expenses paid trip to the gambling mecca of the world, Las Vegas. The entire prize pool will be worth $100,000.
Ladbrokes Poker PR Manager Samantha Alleyne said, “The European Ladies Championship is the FA Cup of the poker circuit. Amateurs pit their wits against some of the best online poker players around for a shot at the title and the glory.”
Already lined up to play is Europe’s 2007 World Series of Poker champion, 19-year old phenomenon Annette Obrestad from Norway. In addition, there are 23 other players who have qualified to participate. Of them, Alleyne said, “We’ve got women from all walks of life playing in the tournament, including an astrophysicist, housewives, an array of businesswomen, and a 19-year old student. If this does not show that poker is for everyone, nothing will.”
The ELC will take place on May 3rd and 4th in the London Studios. Several weeks remain to qualify to be one of the players, and qualifying tournaments are running weekly at Ladbrokes Poker. Every Monday night at 9pm GMT, there is a $250 buy-in tournament in which one player will receive a $2,500 prize package, which includes the event buy-in, tickets to the pre-tournament party on May 2, accommodations, and transportation. Satellites into those tournaments are available for as little as $5.
