Jonathan Kalmar, 34-year old British poker player, has been signed to a sponsorship deal with Ladbrokes Poker . He will play online as “skalie” and wear Ladbrokes gear when playing in upcoming tournaments, specifically the 2008 World Series of Poker.

Most famous for his final table finish at the 2007 WSOP main event, where he finished fifth for $1,255,069, Jon has a longer poker career than most are aware. He has been playing in card clubs in the north and Midlands regions of England for years, as well as traveling to the United States to compete in various tournaments. His tournament results date back to 2004 and include several WSOP cashes, a 10th place finish at the 2005 EPT Irish Masters, and a third place achievement on the 2006 Ladbrokes Poker Cruise.

Coming off of his most recent accomplishment, a 21st place finish at the 2008 WPT World Championship in Las Vegas, Ladbrokes completed the deal with Kalmar and made it official, though it had been in the works since the early months of 2008. He will join the group of four sponsored players, along with a 110-person Ladbrokes Poker Team that will be at the WSOP main event this summer.

Kalmar noted, “I’m thrilled; I can’t wait to take up my role of Ladbrokes Poker pro in an official capacity! I’m raring to go. As part of Team Ladbrokes in 2006 I came 82nd in the main event and then finished in 5th last year. Let’s hope I continue to improve upon my performance.”

In addition to playing live tournaments for the Ladbrokes team of pros and competing online at Labrokes Poker, Kalmar will contribute blogs and reports from major poker events from around the world. There will also be a poker promotion named after him to be announced in the near future.
