On Monday, May 5th, Bodog Poker announced the signing of Justin “ZeeJustin” Bonomo to its roster of Team Bodog pros. He joins David Williams, Evelyn Ng, and recently-signed Jean-Robert Bellande at online and live poker tournaments and Bodog promotional and marketing campaigns.
At the same time, Josh Arieh was informed that he is no longer a member of Team Bodog. He was reportedly told that the company wished to go in a different direction. Despite the fact that Arieh has earned more than $4.5 million in tournaments and two World Series of Poker bracelets, he was dropped from the roster. On the other hand, Evelyn Ng was kept on the team with only $301,957 in lifetime tournament earnings, including exactly $0 in 2008 thus far and only $17,457 in 2007.
A spokesperson for Morris Mohawk Gaming Group said of Arieh’s departure, “We sincerely enjoyed our association with Josh and appreciate all that he brought to Team Bodog. We wish him nothing but the best in his future endeavors, both at and away from the poker table.”
On the brighter side of the development, Bodog’s decision to sign Bonomo to the team is a solid one, as the young player already has more than $1.1 million in tournament earnings to his credit. It was at the final table of the $2000 no-limit hold’em event at the 2007 WSOP that he first caught the attention of Bodog, where he wore the Bodog patch for his fourth place finish. The relationship between Bonomo and Bodog continued to grow, and the site has made it official.
Alwyn Morris, CEO of Morris Mohawk Gaming Group, which licenses and promotes the Bodog brand in North America, stated, “Justin is one of the most feared and skilled players in poker today and we’re thrilled to officially have him join our team of world-class poker pros. Justin lives and breathes the Bodog lifestyle and is a perfect fit for us. We expect him to make a lot of noise this year for Team Bodog, beginning with the WSOP this summer.”
Bonomo added, “I’m extremely excited about joining the select ranks of Team Bodog pros and becoming an ambassador for the Bodog brand alongside David, Evy and Jean-Robert. I know each of them personally and have tremendous respect for them. I’m ready to start things off right by having a big WSOP this summer and hopefully bringing home a gold bracelet for Team Bodog. I’m also looking forward to meeting up with other poker players from around the world at Bodog’s online poker tables.”
With the WSOP only a short time away, Bonomo will likely be sharpening his skills on the Bodog Poker website, where players can compete on a daily basis for the 120 WSOP main event seats up for grabs.
