The World Poker Association (WPA) has announced its inaugural conference to be held in Las Vegas on May 28th and 29th. Pegged as an educational event for its members, the WPA is making its foray into live seminars just before the start of the 2008 World Series of Poker.

The two-day conference is called “63 Money Making Tips to Win a Bundle at the WSOP” and will be moderated by Mike Caro. A panel featuring three experienced poker coaches will help tutor the class. LIPS Tour champion Lisa Adams, WPA Board of Directors Vice Chairperson Ken Adams, and French School of Poker instructor Francois Montmirel will focus on tournament strategy, differences in playing styles of Americans and Europeans, and playing against women.

WPA Chairperson Wendeen Eolis said, “The conference is a winning trifecta ticket, allowing members to sharpen their tournament skills, network at the must-be-seen opening cocktail party, May 28th and then prove their bragging rights in the WPA mega satellite, May 29th.”

Other events included in the conference will be the WPA inaugural membership meeting, where directors will be elected for the new membership year which begins in June of 2008. Currently, Eolis holds the position of Chairperson, Adams as Vice Chair, Roy Winston as Secretary, and Rhett Butler as Treasurer. Other director nominees are Lisa Adams, Michael Binger, Doyle Brunson, Joe Hachem, Jesse Jones, Thomas Kremser, JJ Liu, Victor Ramdin, Blair Rodman, Roger Saad, Harry Thomas Jr., and Roy Winston.

Eolis commented, “I am the short-term steward for the evolving vision of the WPA. The new Board slate reflects the best in diversity and a group of doers with an abundance of smarts at the poker table and far beyond the felt.”

Admission to the conference, which will be held at the Rio All-Suite Hotel and Casino, is free to members who have paid dues through May 31, 2009. Members not renewed through that date can attend the seminar for $50, and non-members will be charged $75 – both of the latter payments also allowing those attendees to have the renewed membership through May of 2009.

The first day of the conference, May 28th, will conclude its day with a cocktail party at 6pm, and the complimentary hors d’oeuvres will be available to members for free, though non-members will be asked to pay $25 at the door. The following day will include a $500 buy-in mega satellite for players to win seats to the 2008 WSOP main event.

The WPA now boasts of nearly 1400 members and continues to grow. The organization’s mission is to have one voice and one vote in the world of tournament poker. Specifically, the goal is to “promote professionalism in poker worldwide and support the highest standards of ethical conduct in tournament poker activities.” The group represents the interests of tournament poker players throughout the world.
