In a major announcement on June 1st, Finnish poker superstar Patrik Antonius joined Full Tilt Poker’s team of pro players. The move took place just on the heels of the first final table of the 2008 World Series of Poker, where Patrik would take his seat under the lights and cameras of the ESPN production set.
Rumors swirled that the highly sought after pro would be signed to one of the major online poker sites that day, and just before the final table was scheduled to start, Patrik attended a private meeting for select media and Full Tilt members. He was then seen walking the halls with a Full Tilt sticker on his shirt, and it was official.
The team of Full Tilt pros is now 13 strong, with some of the absolute best players in the game of poker – Chris Ferguson, Phil Ivey, Howard Lederer, Jennifer Harman, Erick Lindgren, Erik Seidel, Andy Bloch, Phil Gordon, John Juanda, Mike Matusow, Gus Hansen, and Allen Cunningham. Collectively, the group has 32 WSOP bracelets among them, and the likelihood of increasing that number during the 2008 Series is a good bet.
Antonius is a logical addition to the team. At the young age of 27, Patrik has already proven to be one of the great players of the game. With only several years of poker under his belt, he has already accumulated over $2.8 million in tournament earnings, which includes seven WPT cashes – one being a second place at the 2005 Five Diamond Poker Classic for over $1 million – and 11 WSOP cashes. More significant in many circles, however, is his prowess in high limit cash games, such as the Big Game at the Bellagio in Las Vegas, and in online games. He has become one of the most respected and feared players in the game.
Patrik noted, “As everyone knows, Team Full Tilt has all the top pros in the world and I’m honored to now be a member of such a legendary team.”
Added fellow pro Howard Lederer, “Patrik Antonius is a young rising star in the poker world who has shown he will be a force for decades to come. We are thrilled he has joined the team.”
Soon to be found playing exclusively on Full Tilt Poker, players will be able to watch Patrik and, if the stakes are right, play against him. And he will be in Las Vegas for the duration of the WSOP and no doubt spending some time at the cash games when the limits are high enough to pique his interest. In all tournaments, he will be representing Full Tilt Poker.
