All In: The Poker Musical Comes to the WSOP

In the category of “this could go either way,” the World Series of Poker has announced that a new poker musical will debut on July 4th and 5th at the Rio All-Suite Hotel and Casino. All In: The Poker Musical will chronicle the journey of nine players at the final table of the WSOP main event.

Whether poker players and fans are the right audience for a musical remains to be seen, but the play has been written, rehearsed, and is ready for audiences. The one-hour concert format musical, with a live band in tow, will be held at the Masquerade Theater as the WSOP main event is conducting its second and third Day 1 flights in the Rio Convention Center. The show will be open to the public on July 4th and 5th, but a special preview concert will be hosted on July 3rd for invited poker guests and media.

Tim Molyneux is the creator of the musical that is being described as “fast paced, witty, sexy and fun.” He has also created shows like Bite, which is showing on the Las Vegas Strip, and worked with E! Entertainment Television and the Lifetime Channel with various productions. Molyneux noted, “Our show embraces the spirit of this great city and mixes it with the fun and passion of poker, music, and dance.”

The production was created with the support of the World Series of Poker and Phil Hellmuth to be the first poker-themed musical to ever be developed and produced. The setting is a final table of the WSOP main event with a focus on the various personalities and situations involved. Hellmuth, upon whom one of the characters in the musical is based, said, “Through the lyrics of the songs and style of music, we see not only who these final nine players are, but we are able to see ourselves, our families, and our world.”

WSOP Commissioner Jeffrey Pollack added, “The game of poker is a metaphor for the game of life. Now one man’s vision and creativity will show us just how close they really are in this special concert.”

Also commenting on the musical was poker pro Jennifer Harman. “Tim Molyneux has done what others have tried to do by capturing the global phenomena of poker by brilliantly tying it to one of the most powerful forces on earth…music. Poker is life and Tim shows us this in a very entertaining way.”

In conjunction with the debut of All In: The Poker Musical, the WSOP has chosen one of the songs from it to be the new theme song of the World Series of Poker, which will be played at some point as an introduction to or during the WSOP main event that begins on July 3rd, 2008.

Tickets can be purchased at the Rio box office; prices start at $29.95.
