Arguably the most popular poker television show among poker fans has been High Stakes Poker on GSN. Four seasons of high-limit cash games has given players insight into the world of players like Doyle Brunson, Daniel Negreanu, Sam Farha, and Jennifer Harman, and by popular demand, GSN has finally renewed the show for its fifth season.

There were some tense moments over the past months for High Stakes Poker, as the time that the players and hosts expected it to be renewed came and went. Poker forums ran rampant with speculations that GSN was no longer interested in any poker shows, and when the network chose not to renew its contract with the World Poker Tour, that point seemed to have been proven true. However, despite all rumors to the contrary, GSN has renewed High Stakes Poker for its fifth season.

According to reports, though no official press release has come from GSN, the new shows will begin filming in September of 2008, and AJ Benza and Gabe Kaplan will return as hosts. Pokerati quoted Benza as saying, “I’m back baby! Looks like we’ll start taping in early September. Can’t wait.” No air dates have been released at this time.

PokerNews
obtained a quote from Jennifer Minezaki, Director of Public Relations at GSN, to confirm the renewal of High Stakes Poker. “GSN has picked up the option on the fifth season of ‘High Stakes Poker’ and continues to enjoy poker on its air.”

Quite possibly, the outcry from poker fans and the show’s proven ratings were enough for GSN to renew the contract. And depending on the production schedule, High Stakes Poker may be on the air before the end of 2008.
