On Thursday PokerStars announced the launch of PokerStars.it, an Italian only version of the world's largest online poker site.
Italy granted a license to PokerStars just days ago, and the site quickly took advantage.
Why? Well, the move opens the door to 500,000 new players.
The license allows PokerStars to operate in the constraints of Italian law, meaning it allows it to hold exclusive poker tournaments for Italian players with fees from of up to €100.00.
The players can also win entries into international poker events such as the PokerStars European Poker Tour and the World Series of Poker in Las Vegas.
PokerStars already represents Dario Minieri, famous for winning his first WSOP bracelet this year and finishing high in last year's Main Event (he was the chip leader at one point). Dario also "bought" a Porsche with Frequent Player Points he earned playing on the site.
Market research showed that 500,000 accounts would be opened in Italy in the first year alone.
“This is the start of a global template which could potentially be adopted in other markets internationally in the next few years," said PokerStars Italian Country Manager Fabio Angeli Bufalini. Want to play with all those Italians? Then Download PokerStars and get an Exclusive PokerWorks Bonus!
