The Round Table - Sights and Sounds from the Bahamas - Part 2

Check out Part 1 HERE, PokerStars Caribbean Adventure.

I know…it’s crazy…It was day 4 of me in the Bahamas and I hadn’t yet gone to the pool or waterslides. I knew Wednesday afternoon was the day to change that.

We somehow conjured up a big group, including myself, Heather B, Bryan Devonshire, his girlfriend Shelley, Jessica Welman, Adam Levy, his brother, JC Alvarado, Adam Katz, and Hunter Frey to hit up the lazy river ride on some inner tubes.

Just an FYI – that lazy river is not so lazy
. At one point it turns to rapids and I actually lost my tube and swimsuit and tumbled down the thing with a lifeguard attached to my arm, trying to save me to no avail. Somehow I only came out of it with a scratch on my elbow but some others weren’t so lucky. Both Adam Levy and his brother scraped up their legs and feet.

After deciding we didn’t want to die right there on the ‘lazy’ river we went over to the parallel racing slides and had a go. Adam Levy and Adam Katz decided to bet $50 a go and Katz ended up coming out victorious after about 4 runs.
We finished off our pool excursion with a round of drinks and an epic war battle between Adam Katz and I. All I will say is he won – but this is far from over.

While we were hanging at the pool, 48 others were ponying up $25,000 for the ‘High Rollers’ event. Those who bought in included everyone from live pros Antonio Esfandiari and Chris Ferguson to internet phenoms like Isaac ‘westmenloAA’ Baron and Vivek ‘Psyduck’ Rajkumar to even a girlfriend (Liya Gerasimova) of WSOP Main Event and WSOPE Main Event final table finisher Ivan Demidov.

That night several of us went to dinner and then afterwards headed to the club inside Atlantis, Aura. It seemed every poker player in Atlantis also decided to go clubbing that night and the place was packed full.
Ali Nejad stopped by and showed off some of his amazing dance moves to the group. Joe Sebok and I tried to keep up – but honestly – no one can match his moves.

Also spotted were Jean Robert Bellande, Nenad Medic, Joe Cassidy, Alex ‘AJKHoosier1’ Kambris, and Tom ‘Durrrr’ Dwan.
On Thursday the High Rollers final table kicked off around 1pm and I stopped by later in the afternoon to watch the final 3 battle it out. When I arrived just Scott ‘gunning4you’ Seiver, Bertrand ‘ElkY’ Grospellier, and Will Molson remained.  And I found a place in the audience with Issac Haxton and JC Alvarado to sweat out a little of the action.

Impressively enough ElkY came through and won ANOTHER title within a year’s time (that’s the 2008 PCA Main Event, the 2008 WPT Festa al Lago Main Event and now the High Rollers event.)
On Friday, my last full day in the Bahamas, we decided to gather a big group to hit up the pools and slides again. Considering there isn’t much cell usage in the Caribbean we did a pretty good job at rallying a decent group.

Heather B, Mandy B, Jon ‘sketchy1’ Eaton, Adam Katz, Adam Levy, Scott Seiver, Mike ‘SirWatts’ Watson, JC Alvarado, and a few others all came together and after the rides did the obvious that afternoon…buried Vivek Rajkumar in the sand.

I don’t even remember how it started or how we convinced him to get in the sand, but by the end of it he was completely buried and eventually Scott Seiver and Mandy B decided to join in on the fun and were buried on top of Vivek!

After the buying fiasco most of the group headed over to Mesa Grill for dinner. I ended up drawing for credit card roulette again but this time I knew it would be a tough one since I was friends with everyone in our group. With no randoms to be chosen, the unlucky last pick ended up being Adam ‘akat11’ Katz.

After dinner we hit up the club Aura again and all hung out at a table on the dance floor. At one point Daniel Negreanu, who had a table next to ours, came up to Adam Levy and joked with him that he was going to have a dance off with durrrr (Tom Dwan) for a million dollars.

Daniel joked around saying, “I could lay 3-1 and we could do four dances simultaneously, 50,000 dances total, all he has to do is be ahead at the end and he wins,” playing off of Tom’s recent heads up challenge that was accepted by Phil Ivey and Patrik Antonius.

The next day, after another interesting limo ride with Dave ‘Raptor’ Benefield and Phil Galfond, Phil and I made our way to Los Angeles. We ran into Sorel Mizzi and Gus Hansen at the airport, both were headed to Australia.

It also was the first time Phil and Gus had met face to face, after battling each other in the highest games online for years. Few words were exchanged, but they did meet back on the virtual felt a couple days later.

Oh and I forgot – we did find out the shark on a slide thing did happen. Pretty crazy, especially because Brandon Cantu is always bluffing and this time he actually wasn’t!

Also, after the week I ended up 7-2 on Phil in gin…I knew I would make a comeback!

Now I’m back in LA for a couple weeks, but be sure to stick around for the next adventure!

Like a wheel, the Round Table is a circle of adventures and victories, beats and stories, and life as it unfolds with a cast of characters that may, or may not, have joined you in your home on a local TV program. There's so much more to poker than what you see on TV. Although I won't use canvas, I will paint the full picture for you as I follow the lives of some of your favorite (and some unknown) players. The Round Table is an ongoing series of life, viewed full circle.
