It is not often that Johnny Chan links himself to a charity organization and hosts a tournament to raise funds, but he has a special place in his heart for the Andre Agassi Foundation. He will host a charity poker tournament on May 2 at the Red Rock Resort in Las Vegas, complete with reception and pre-event festivities.
The special reception is actually scheduled for the evening of May 1st in the high limit poker area at Red Rock, with poker pros scheduled to mix with players in this special opportunity to chat with the pros.
At 11am the following morning, the poker tournament will begin. The $550 buy-in event will offer unlimited rebuys for $200 through the end of the fourth level and a $200 add-on at the end of that rebuy period. A $50,000 guarantee has been placed on the prize pool, and there will be bounties placed on the head of each poker pro in the field. Those scheduled to attend thus far include Phil Hellmuth, Scotty Nguyen, Antonio Esfandiari, Todd Brunson, Mike Sexton, Ted Forrest, Eli Elezra, Layne Flack, Chau Giang, Sam Grizzle, and Minh Ly. Johnny Chan will also play while handling emcee duties.
All proceeds will benefit the Andre Agassi Foundation, a non-profit organization founded in 1994 by former professional tennis pro Andre Agassi. With a mission of improving the lives of at-risk children, the group has helped more than 180,000 children through recreational and educational programs established to improve self-esteem and present career possibilities.
