The ESPN Poker Club is offering the sweetest of prizes through its free online poker website, as a seat into the 2009 World Series of Poker main event is on the line, the fifth of its kind. It was announced during the 2009 WSOP conference call to the media on April 28, and the action on the site has commenced.
There are many poker sites offering WSOP seats this year, though few give players the opportunity to win a spot in the most prestigious tournament of the year with no funds required. But the ESPN Poker Club is offering the seat without players having to deposit money, as it is a free poker site, and without even having to download anything to one’s computer. It is played directly on the ESPN website. Throughout the year, players compete for prizes like entries into poker tournaments and poker training seminars and classes, but the WSOP main event seat is the premier prize offered each year.
The directions are simple. By playing the free tournaments or ring games on the website throughout the week, competitors can earn points. Once 60 of those points are accumulated, a player can sign up for any Sunday qualifier. There are three each Sunday going forward - 2pm, 5pm, and 9pm ET - and there is no limit as to how many a player can enter if he or she has the points.
Every Sunday qualifier will award 25 seats into the final tournament to be held on June 14, 2009. Out of the 450-player event, the ultimate winner will receive a coveted seat to the 2009 WSOP main event.
Registration is easy and can be done at the ESPN website. Look for the poker section, enter a wee bit of information, and you could be on your way to Las Vegas for the 2009 World Series of Poker in July!
