WPT Prepares for June 24-30 Spanish ChampionshipAs the poker industry waits for the World Poker Tour to announce its Season 8 schedule, the WPT has released information about its 2009 Spanish Poker Championship that is set to take place from June 24 to 30. Again to be held at the Casino Barcelona, the event hopes to find the participation of more than 400 players.

The events, presented by WPT Enterprises, Inc. and the Peralada Group, will kick off with €200 + €20 super satellites taking place on June 24 and 25, and the €5,000 + €300 WPT No-Limit Hold’em Main Event will officially begin on June 26. Several side events will serve as options for the players, as well as the availability of numerous cash games as requested by players.

With a prize pool yet to be determined, what is known is that the winner will receive a substantial cash prize in addition to the WPT champion’s bracelet and a seat into the WPT Season 8 World Championship to take place in April in Las Vegas, an opportunity that is worth $25,500.

Founder, President and CEO of the WPT, Steve Lipscomb, noted, “The Spanish Championship of WPT was a great success in the last two years. It is a great honour for us to extend one more year our alliance with the Peralada Group and come back to Spain with a stage of a regional tour that the Catalans can consider as their own.”

The 2009 champion will follow in the footsteps of previous title holders like the 2008 winner Casper Hansen, who took home €400,000 for his victory.
