WPT Slovakia to Launch in Bratislava August 31As the World Poker Tour proceeds with the licensing of its brand throughout the world in places like China and Italy, WPT Enterprises announced another tournament to launch in the summer of 2009. In partnership with the Slovak Poker Sport Federation, the WPT will hold its first ever tournament in Central/Eastern Europe with the inaugural WPT Slovakia from August 31 to September 4.

The event will be held at the Herna Golden VEGAS Casino in Bratislava, which is the capital of Slovakia, and the main event will be a deep stack tournament requiring a €4,000 + 400 buy-in. There will also be side events as part of the larger Central European Summer Poker Championship at the casino, and those events will offer buy-ins from €50 to €1,500 starting August 26. All tournaments will be overseen by Tournament Director Steve Frezer and his tournament staff, all of whom are currently working at the World Series of Poker in Las Vegas.

Partnering with the Slovak Poker Sport Federation, an organization that represents poker players and poker rooms in the Slovak Republic, the WPT is able to work with a group with the kind of experience running poker tournaments that will complement the World Poker Tour’s history of hosting globally-appealing poker events.

Said WPT Founder and CEO Steve Lipscomb, “WPT Slovakia is a unique and exciting addition to the World Poker Tour’s expanding international tournament offering. We have found a great partner in tSlovak Poker Sport Federation, who are truly dedicated to growing the sport of poker in the Central and Eastern European territory.”

Dag Palovic, SPSF President and former television producer and moderator, added, “With the creation of WPT Slovakia we intend to emphasize Bratislava’s attributes as a highly desirable destination for all poker players. The casino partner was also important to us, and Golden VEGAS is truly a location worthy of the players, the poker media, and the WPT Event.”
