The Main Event is set to kick off on Friday. It's the biggest event of the year and as the other events have started to drag on, it will bring an infusion of energy into the Rio. Here are some of the questions that we'll get answers to soon:#1 – How many entrants will there be? Last year there was 6,844. In 2007, there was 6,357. 2006 set the record with 8,773 entrants. 854 players took part in one of the last events at this year’s WSOP, the $3,000 Triple Chance No Limit Hold Em event, creating a prize pool of well over two million dollars. Bertrand Grospellier, Jason Mercier, Mike Sexton, and Erick Lindgren were among those who took a shot at taking home the bracelet but failed to do so. J.J. Liu, Lee Childs, Kathy Liebert, Mike Caro, Antonio Esfandiari, and Eric Lynch all cashed but came up short of the final table.

As one of the last events of the 2009 World Series of Poker prior to the $10K Main Event, the stud-8 tournament attracted 467 players on Sunday, June 28. The resulting $637,455 prize pool set aside for the last 48 players forced them to attempt to stick around as long as possible, though only 136 made it through the first day.Day 2 saw the bubble burst and the final 48 players cash for a minimum of $2,696. But play slowed into the morning hours as the field attempted to push its way toward the final table.

Smart poker players know that they’ll make tons of money in the long run by playing in tournaments which offer great value. And great value in a poker tournament simply means a tourney where the room is forced to put a large amount of their own money into the prize pool in order to fill it up. The only bad thing is that it can sometimes be difficult to find poker tournaments that offer great value and one can spend hours looking.
