It was only two days before the start of the 2009 World Series of Poker $10K Main Event. And it was a rather slow day as far as the tournament schedule, as the action wound down toward the “big dance.” While there were three tournaments making their way through their final tables, only one tournament hit its stride in Day 2.The $5K NLHE short-handed event was the 56th tournament of the 2009 Series, and for those who had been in Las Vegas since the beginning, the excitement had turned into a grind.

Howard and Suzie Lederer's World Series of Barbecue was taking place today at the Golden Nugget. With the charity poker tournament benefiting the Boys and Girls Club kicking off at 4 p.m. local time there wasn't much time to visit the action at the World Series of Poker but I stopped by around 2 o'clock to see what was going on.It was a quiet day at the Rio. The main action going on was the Mega Satellites they were holding for Main Event seats.

I'm a big fan of Ante Up For Africa for several reasons. First, it's for a great cause (although I could argue that there are causes that need attention in the United States, but that's one of the great things about our country is we've always gone out of our ways to provide aid to others who don't have it as good as we do). Second, it brings poker to the forefront for at least one day with big names like Ben Affleck, Matt Damon, and Don Cheadle partaking in the festivities.The one thing I don't like, however, is the f'in paparazzi.

The last preliminary tournament of the 2009 World Series of Poker was an opportunity. While many used the days before the $10K main event to rest and relax, others were anxious for the chance to cash in, make a final table of, and potentially win the no-limit hold’em short-handed event. This was their chance.There were 928 players who took their $5K shot at it, and the combination of those numbers made for a $4,361,600 prize pool for the last 90 players standing to split according to their finishes. And the first place prize? A whopping $1,003,218.
