It is a new and innovative year for the Poker Hall of Fame, as the process of choosing nominees for induction has been changed rather significantly to include the wishes of the poker public. And after more than a month of nominations being accepted, there were ten members of the poker community who garnered the most votes and made it to the next step of the process.When the voting began on May 26, anyone had the opportunity to submit names for consideration, and those with the most votes by July 2 were given spots on the top ten list.

The World Series of Poker in 2003 made history, due to an unknown rookie online player with the media perfect name of Chris Moneymaker, who took the top spot and $2,500,000 along with it. But that year has also gone down in poker history as the year of the huge poker boom, seeing a worldwide surge of new online players. When Moneymaker’s amazing feat was televised, thousands of would be poker players jumped into seats online, hoping to follow in the new World Champ’s footsteps. One of these new hopefuls was a young college student named Jason Mercier.

Sometimes, a day off is necessary, or at the very least welcomed. The day between 2B and 3 was Thursday and a day off, and it gave everyone the opportunity for a bit of downtime in Vegas. Whether it was playing in the turbo poker tournament for the media or simply enjoying the sun and entertainment Las Vegas had to offer to the WSOP players, the day off was used to its fullest.That led the World Series of Poker to resume on Friday, July 10, as the first day to combine all of the players into one field.

Word is that more than 150 teams have already registered for the July WSOP Dream Team Poker tournament in Las Vegas, and even more players continue putting together their trios as the July 12th start date quickly approaches. Numerous well-known poker pros have secured their seats so far, and sports celebrity Jose Canseco has registered his team as well. The third annual Dream Team Poker event looks to boast of an exciting mix of pros and amateurs to make for the biggest Dream Team event thus far.

I decided this evening I'd spend a little time watching Phil Ivey and Theo Tran play. The two players styles are similar, although Ivey is obviously the more recognizable name, Tran is no slouch himself having had a great 2008 WSOP. I started off watching Ivey and the following is my observation of him during the thirty minutes I watched his table.The blinds were at 1,200/2,400 with a 300 ante. Ivey folded the first two hands that were dealt to him when there was a raise in front of him.
