PokerStars Announces the Americas Cup of Poker

Are you a poker player who is proud of your country? Then why not represent your country and win $100,000 while doing it? You can - in PokerStars new Americas Cup of Poker event!

The Americas Cup of Poker is a team event that will couple players like you with Team PokerStars Pros, to compete for their countries glory in Argentina, with a $250,000 prize pool up for grabs!

It all starts online at PokerStars - where you can aid your team by qualifying for the final live event. There will be a total of eight teams that will qualify in their group to jet off to Argentina to vie for the fame and cash. Taking place at the beautiful Bariloche ski resort, the event will be held in the picturesque region of Patagonia, nestled in the famous Andes mountain range. Known the world over as one of South America’s most beautiful locations, you will experience the trip of a lifetime, all while vying to win poker fame for your homeland!

PokerStars will be hosting Americas Cup of Poker daily tournaments where citizens of 13 countries are invited to play, which are: Argentina, Brazil, Canada, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Ecuador, Mexico, Paraguay, Peru, Venezuela, Uruguay and even the USA! Players from these countries will be split into groups, where they will face off against each weekly to see their country represented at the live final.

Each weekly round will see each country playing against the other teams in their group with players battling it out to win as many events as they can and score points for their team. Then after all the group matches have played out, the two countries with the most wins in each group will start packing – to represent their country in Argentina! And when you get to Argentina, you will be playing for eight places which pay:

1.    $100,000
2.    $60,000
3.    $30,000
4.    $20,000
5.    $10,000
6.    $10,000
7.    $10,000
8.    $10,000

The action starts July 27th when Group A kicks off with Mexico vs. Wildcard and the USA takes on. Ecuador. Wildcard country teams are comprised of those players which are not from one of the 13 countries listed above.

How do you earn points?

In each group tournament, players who finish in the top 100 will earn points for their country with the top two scoring countries winning a spot at the live final. Current rankings can be found on the Player Rankings and Country Rankings pages.

Who goes to the Live Final in Argentina?

Eight teams will win their way to the live final. These teams will be made up of the two countries that have scored the most wins from each of the four groups. Teams will be comprised of the five players that garnered the most points for their team and the sight teams will then go head-to-head to take down their share of the $250,000 prize pool. And just to give your countries team their own lethal weapon, a member of Team PokerStars Pro will be playing as part of each team!
