SUPER POKER SUNDAY 12/13: Big Night for Newhizzle on PokerStars

As the year was winding down and left only a few Sundays in the year, December 13th showed that the online poker community was starting to relax a bit for the holidays as well. The registration numbers in all of the major tournaments were down from the previous week, though Full Tilt Poker’s numbers were down more than others, most likely due to the MiniFTOPS events that garnered tens of thousands of players.

But the winnings in the Sunday majors were still significant for those who played, and millions of dollars were awarded to the collective in-the-money contingent. The players who saw the most excitement, however, was Mark “newhizzle” Newhouse, who had been making strides in the online poker world of late and ended up in the late stages of two PokerStars tournaments this week. After a 13th place finish in the Sunday 500, the online pro went on to not only final table the Sunday Million but win it for the prestigious title and more than $245K in prize money. It was a solid week for newhizzle.

All of the Sunday majors results are listed here.

PokerStars

Sunday Warm-Up

The first of the PokerStars Sunday majors got underway early in the afternoon with its $200 + $15 buy-in and $750K guarantee. Though registration was down from the week before by nearly 200 players, the 4,526-player field still brought the prize pool to a substantial $905,200, well over the guarantee as usual. After the last 675 players were guaranteed payouts in the event, it came down to the final table where the top two players each received six-figure cashes, though cotrim333 defeated joojeh816 to also take the title and $142K for first place.

1st place:    cotrim333 ($142,009.99)
2nd place:    joojeh816 ($105,455.80)

Sunday 1/4 Million
Even the most popular tournament on the PokerStars Sunday roster took a hit in registration numbers, though only by a few hundred players. The $10 + $1 buy-in event with the $250K guarantee brought 30,772 interested players, which created a prize pool of $307,720 to be divided amongst the final 4,500 players according to their finishes. The final table saw the final four players battling for five-figure payouts, but it was firstPhoenix who defeated JESUSMC_21 to take the title and more than $27K in first place money.

9th place:    pavlinhoo ($1,538.60)

Daily Eighty Grand Sunday Special
Another downturn in registration became clear to be par for the course in the PokerStars Sunday events, as more than 200 less turned out for the special Sunday edition of the Daily Eighty Grand this week than did last week. But the field of 5,467 players, all with buy-ins of $50 + $5, took the prize pool past the $200K guarantee and on to a total of $273,350. The last 810 players cashed out, but it was patinho77 who defeated CleeShay to grab the first place prize of close to $35K.

8th place:    gator doc ($3,280.20)
9th place:    moertelmu ($1,913.45)

Sunday Million
The Sunday Million title is one of the most coveted in online poker, and it helps that first place in the tournament usually comes with a prize of more than $200K. This week was no different when the big names in poker came out looking for their shot at it. Another decrease in registration - several hundred players - saw the number come in at 8,358 players, but the $200 + $15 buy-in for the hopes of a shot at the $1.5 million guarantee took the prize pool to $1,671,600. The last 1,260 finishers were paid, and several big names came close to the final table, including Amit “AMAK316” Makhija, who finished in 11th place. Team PokerStars Pro Hevad Khan made it to eighth place at the final table, but it was Mark “newhizzle” Newhouse who took everyone down and scored more than $245K for the massive victory.

1st place:    Mark “newhizzle” Newhouse ($245,897.13)
2nd place:    rockyone123 ($179,697.00)

8th place:    Hevad “RaiNKhAN” Khan ($18,387.60)
9th place:    Stev0L_ ($12,954.90)

Sunday 500
The high stakes tournament that brings the elite of the PokerStars players to the last tournament of each Sunday night offered its usual $500K guarantee for the $500 + $30 buy-in, and there were 1,003 players willing to take their shots at it. That brought the prize pool up to $501,500 for the last 144 players. And looking for his second final table of the night was Mark “newhizzle” Newhouse, who finally had to settle for 13th place while staying strong in the Sunday Million. And when it came down to only two players in the game, it was Edu_Parra who got the best of Gwermont to be awarded the $87K top prize.

1st place:    Edu_Parra ($87,662.20)
2nd place:    Gwermort ($63,690.50)

Full Tilt Poker

The Sunday Brawl

Full Tilt Poker started its Sunday action, aside from the various MiniFTOPS events underway, with its Sunday Brawl, which offered a $400K guarantee for a $240 + $16 buy-in. A sizable drop-off in registration numbers saw more than 300 fewer players in this week’s event, though the 2,601-player field still brought the prize pool to $520,200. The last 279 players were paid, in addition to anyone who knocked out another player and collected a $40 bounty. But it was at the final table that a Full Tilt Pro named Eunjong Byun finished in eighth place, while the last four players standing came to a financial agreement for the rest of the payouts. But the biggest stack at deal time, bigdogpckt5s, ended up taking third place but grabbed more than $82K for it, leaving lancer0410 to defeat Ecliptica89 for only $58K.

1st place:    lancer0410 ($57,952.83)
2nd place:    Ecliptica89 ($64,380.28)

$750,000 Guarantee
One of the tournaments that saw the greatest decrease in players this week was the $750K Guarantee, which found itself with almost 500 players less than the week before. The $200 + $16 buy-in event brought only 3,787 players to the tables, of which 522 were in the money when all was said and done. But it was at the final table that the heads-up match found the two players able to strike a deal for the remainder of the prize money but play until tablepiece eventually claimed the title.

1st place:    tablepiece ($111,319.74)
2nd place:    pat4ak2 ($103,819.73)
3rd place:    Brendo78 ($53,018.00)

The Sunday Mulligan
With a $200 + $16 buy-in, the Sunday Mulligan brought its weekly $200K guarantee to the tables, and there were 1,090 players up for the challenge. That number brought the prize pool up to $218,000, which was split amongst the top 99 players. And in the end, sh4rrK pulled off a victory against second place finisher Beligma to take home more than $49K to symbolize the win.

1st place:    sh4rrK ($49,050.00)

$200K Double Deuce
This tournament was not on the schedule this week due to the running of the MiniFTOPS events that offered similar buy-ins and tournaments. In order to prevent conflict or confusion, the Double Deuce was postponed until next week.

UltimateBet

$200K Guaranteed

For the first time in many weeks, the UB Sunday event with the $200K guarantee fell victim to the lower registration numbers across the board and saw the total come in at under the 1,000 players it would take for the prize pool to surpass the guarantee. The 960-player field of $200 + $15 buy-in players forced UB to kick in some extra prize money to make the prize pool an even $200K. It was the final 90 in the money, but THEBUBBLE1 outlasted BLANCONEGRO to take down the first prize of nearly $45K.

1st place:    THEBUBBLE1 ($44,920.00)
2nd place:    BLANCONEGRO ($26,900.00)
3rd place:    SILLYHUNNY ($18,300.00)
4th place:    YARDBIRD78 ($12,900.00)
5th place:    DEADHORSE86 ($10,900.00)

7th place:    KOSTENKIS ($6,900.00)
8th place:    QUASSI ($4,900.00)
9th place:    BAZOOKA87 ($3,400.00)

Bodog

$100K Guaranteed

The big tournament on Bodog as part of the Sunday festivities found itself with a decrease in players, with only 458 this week as compared to the 472 of the week before. The $100K guarantee stood after everyone bought in for $150 + $12 and gave the players quite the overlay as usual. Once the last 63 players found themselves with some extra cash for playing the tournament, it was up to the final players to compete for the first place prize of $25K, which was eventually taken by L Rocketz upon defeating UntiltDotCom.

1st place:    L Rocketz ($25,000.00)
2nd place:    UntiltDotCom ($15,000.00)
