The mid-January rendition of the Sunday majors found more players than the previous week interested in sidling up to their computers to play a day of online poker. Most of the fun of this round-up is the poker, and by the poker, I not only mean the chips, cards and cash, I mean the attitude.So I apologize ahead of time for the somber nature of this week's article. The Poker Community Rallies Together in Support of the Haitian Earthquake VictimsWhile rescue workers in Haiti persistently search for survivors of the magnitude 7 earthquake that hit the country last Tuesday, the poker community continues to come together and find ways they can lend a helping hand from afar. Both PokerStars and Full Tilt have set up “dummy” tournament lobbies where everybody can donate money, where all proceeds will go directly to help the cause. Both of the rooms are expected to have these lobbies open until at least the end of the month, and probably longer.

In the wake of the 7.0 magnitude earthquake that virtually demolished the small Caribbean nation of Haiti on January 12th, the devastation is unbelievable. In Port-au-Prince, which is the capitol and largest city in Haiti, over 200,000 are estimated to have lost their lives and thousands more are homeless and starving. People from around the world have stepped in to lend a hand and the generous poker community has also jumped onboard to donate to relief efforts. Among the many poker sites stepping up to the plate are UB and Absolute Poker with their ‘PLAY FOR HAITI’ campaign.
