UB and Absolute Poker Join the Red Cross in Haiti Relief Efforts

In the wake of the 7.0 magnitude earthquake that virtually demolished the small Caribbean nation of Haiti on January 12th, the devastation is unbelievable. In Port-au-Prince, which is the capitol and largest city in Haiti, over 200,000 are estimated to have lost their lives and thousands more are homeless and starving. People from around the world have stepped in to lend a hand and the generous poker community has also jumped onboard to donate to relief efforts. Among the many poker sites stepping up to the plate are UB and Absolute Poker with their ‘PLAY FOR HAITI’ campaign.

As leading online poker sites rally their players to open their wallets and donate to the Red Cross to raise Haiti relief money, this week the Tokwiro owned Cereus Poker Network and their online poker sites UB and Absolute Poker join their poker industry peers to raise funds for the nation of Haiti. In support of the people of the earthquake-ravaged and poverty stricken tiny Caribbean country, online poker rooms Absolute Poker and UB will host Play for Haiti, a dedicated tournament, where players can donate money from their bankrolls to help save lives and rebuild in Haiti. And to make every dollar count even more, the UB and Absolute Poker sites will match the Play for Haiti tournament prize pool dollar-for-dollar.

“Along with the rest of the world, we’ve watched the headlines and news unfold with growing horror as the magnitude of the devastation in Haiti has been revealed,” said Paul Leggett, Tokwiro’s Chief Operations Officer. “We believe we have a duty to do what we can to help raise funds and awareness for the plight of the people of Haiti, and our ‘Play for Haiti’ tournament is one small way we can work with our players to contribute.”

The Haiti Fundraiser at UB and Absolute Poker will be on Wednesday, January 20th at 20:30 ET and will be supported by UB’s many top Pro poker players. Players can donate to this most worthy cause and play for prizes too when they play in the $5+0 buy-in Turbo Rebuy tournament which will be capped at 750 players. Every cent raised will be donated to the Red Cross Haiti Disaster Relief Fund and 100% of the prize pool will be matched by Absolute Poker and UB’s and parent company.

Register now for the Play for Haiti tournament and not only will you be doing your part for humanity, but you can walk away a winner all the way around because UB and Absolute Poker have added over $10,000 in prizes to the prize pool! To entice players to join this most worthy of causes, UB and Absolute Poker will be awarding various UBOC 2010 tournament entries to the players who finish in the top 54 spots as follows:
