Online Poker Room Round-Up: Poker Sites Stepping Up To Help Haiti

Most of the fun of this round-up is the poker, and by the poker, I not only mean the chips, cards and cash, I mean the attitude.

So I apologize ahead of time for the somber nature of this week's article. But after reading about Haiti and the earthquake that's left millions homeless and might lead to 100,000 deaths by the time the dust clears, it's hard to throw a light, happy mood into anything.

Fortunately, the industry leaders in online poker rooms recognize the seriousness of the situation as well.

PokerStars
was one of the first to step up. The site is giving players two easy ways to donate to the cause, and not only that, the site's matching any donations.

Players can transfer to the account "Haiti Fund" using the Transfer Funds tool under the Requests menu. Or they can enter one of the dummy tournaments located under Tourney>Special called the "Haiti Earthquake Relief" fund. These aren't tournaments, they are just a way for players to donate. Players can "enter" them for amounts ranging from $1 to $1,000.

Thousands have already donated.

We'll talk about another site's efforts in a second, but PokerStars is also offering you a chance to meet World Champion Joe Cada in Las Vegas. All you have to do to meet the new PokerStars Pro is to play in freerolls that are running until Feb. 12.

There are also $1.10 satellites that lead to the weekly finals, where you can play for a seat to the grand final. Win that and you'll earn a seat to the new North American Poker Tour's Main Event at the Venetian. Other expenses, of course, are covered, including airline tickets, accommodations and $1,000 spending money.

You'll also get a chance to spend the day with Cada.

The freerolls offer 45 seats to the weekly final, and those run every day. The satellites run twice a day for $1.10, and one in five players will get seats to the weekly final.

Each weekly final awards 18 seats to the grand final. That takes place Feb. 13.

OK. Full Tilt is also offering ways for players to donate to Haiti, this time through regular and dummy tournaments. Players may also transfer funds to the Player ID "Aid for Haiti." You can transfer any amount, starting from $5. All funds will be matched by Full Tilt.

Full Tilt's also doing a $25 million Double Guarantees Week starting Jan. 25 through Sunday, Jan. 31. That means the site is doubling the guaranteed prize money for all of the weekly guarantees tournaments, culminating in the biggest Big Money Sunday ever.

The times remain unchanged, including its most popular tournaments such as the Fifty-Fifty, the Daily Dollar and the $750,000 Guarantee (where it will become the $1.5 Million Guarantee).

Wow.

Titan Poker's also doing a double take, with its Double Tournaments every night offering not only the bounties from those games but a Progressive Jackpot that grows every night.

Players must register for both tournaments of the Titan Double series that start at five-minute intervals for $5 + $1.

Reach the final table in both tournaments, and you'll win a share of the jackpot. Finish in the top 3 in both, and you'll win $200, and if you win both, you'll win the whole jackpot (which was up to $6,000 the other day, by the way).

PokerWorks is joining in with the generosity, as our site is joining up with Poker770 to offer another set of tournaments. You can, of course, download all the software listed above through PokerWorks and get some pretty cool deals for doing so.

One deal includes a new, year-long $10,000 guaranteed tourney series that will feature tournaments with a $10,000 prize pool. It's not a freeroll, but the buy-ins are a measly $5.50. If you don't have an account, you'll get a $7.70 cash bonus free just for registering with Poker 770 even if you don't decide to deposit just yet.

And you can play in the $10,000 guaranteed tournaments even if you already have a Poker770 account. The only catch is you need a special password to play in these tournaments, and that means checking back here to get it. The first tournament is Feb. 28 and the password will be posted in the News Flash they day before the tournament. The next is April 18 - and you'll have to check back to PokerWorks to get that password.

Finally Party Poker and PokerWorks are teaming up for a seat to the LA Poker Classic, a World Poker Tour event with $1 million added.

The $14,000 prize package includes accommodations, a buy-in and expenses, and you can get in for free. Just play one of PartyPoker's daily Freeroll qualifiers, where the top 25 gain entry to the sub-qualifier speed rebuy.

Grab a seat to that, and if you win, you'll not only win the lion's share of the pot but an additional $500,000.

Maybe you can donate some of that to the people in Haiti, who really need it.
