Doyle’s Room Loses Player, Gains Manager Pam Brunson

Being in the news is not always positive, but turning it around with an encouraging announcement is the key. Such has been the way of Doyle’s Room since the beginning of 2010. After one of its “Brunson 10” professional players, Alec Torelli, quit the team to pursue another endeavor, the online poker company announced a manager has been hired to handle the Brunson 10 as it develops into a full team, and that manager’s name is Pam Brunson.

The news that Torelli departed the Brunson 10 took many in the poker industry by surprise, as sponsorship deals are few and far between in the United States. Torelli, better known as “traheho” has had some success in online and live tournaments but reportedly had a comfortable deal with Doyle’s Room. He noted that he wanted to focus on another project, which is rumored to be an emerging online poker project called the Everleaf Poker Network.

Doyle’s Room released a statement regarding the matter: “ confirmed that they are not renewing their contract with Alex Torelli. The online poker player is moving on to another project. Since launching the Brunson 10, Doyle Brunson and the poker room that bears his name have been bombarded by poker players looking to sign with including a number of players who already have contracts with other sites.” Clearly not mourning the loss of Torelli, the site looks to name new players soon, which will be beneficial as there are currently only four players in the Brunson 10.

Speaking of the Brunson 10, it was announced on January 25 that Pam Brunson, Doyle’s daughter, has been hired to manage the team of players. While she was known to play often on the Doyle’s Room site and represent the company in live tournaments, her foray into the business side of her father’s company will bring new challenges for her.

Brunson’s responsibilities will include public relations activities, scheduling activities for the Brunson 10, and managing the team’s relationship with the site as well as each other and the poker industry as a whole. The four current members of the team are Amit Makhija, Chris Moorman, Dani Stern, and Zach Clark.

In the last month, a number of other positions have been filled at Doyle’s Room, including President, CFO, CTO, and Director of Affiliates, as well as positions in the Business Intelligence and Product Management departments.

Doyle Brunson released a statement about the recent additions to his company. “Mark my words. 2010 will be the year of The Brunson 10. I’ll be spending the next 11 months filling the remaining six spots with online poker players who’ve proven themselves. Thanks to the smartest people in the industry now on board at to help, that task should be a really easy one.”
