SUPER POKER SUNDAY 02/07: Palurdo Captures Nearly $250K for Sunday Million Win

It was no record-setting Sunday as was January 31, but considering the Super Bowl was raging on nearly every television in the United States when the Sunday majors got underway on February 7, it was a better day than anticipated. Numbers were down on only a few sites due to Super Bowl parties and excitement, while the rest of the world came out in its usual force for the Sunday tournaments.

While no team pros made it to any final tables, Victor Ramdin came close in the PokerStars Sunday Million and Johan Storakers was cut short in the Full Tilt $750K Guaranteed. It looked to be the amateurs, or those without larger-than-life reputations in the online poker world, who raked in some possibly life-changing money. The biggest winner of the day was in the Sunday Million, where palurdo steamrolled the final table and handily took down the first prize of nearly $250K.

For all of the results, skim the information below:

PokerStars

Sunday Warm-Up

The first of the Sunday majors on PokerStars was the always popular Warm-Up, with its $200 + $15 buy-in and substantial $750K guarantee. The registration numbers were less than the prior week, though the 4,900-player field was more toward the average than that exceptional showing last week. The number of players brought the prize pool to a whopping $980,000, which was divided up amongst the top 720 players in the tournament. At the final table, the last three players made a financial arrangement that guaranteed each of them six-figure payouts, and in the end, philivey0997 was able to defeat trippkirk to grab more than $133K in first place money.

1st place:    philivey0997 ($133,620.23)
2nd place:    trippkirk ($104,152.27)
3rd place:    vaderGZ ($110,548.90)
4th place:    ehcaramba ($55,370.00)
5th place:    doulas12 ($41,650.00)
6th place:    Vincent466 ($31,850.00)
7th place:    gretko ($22,050.00)
8th place:    B3st Move ($12,250.00)
9th place:    nofingclue11 ($7,840.00

Sunday 1/4 Million
This week saw a decline in the number of players in what still remained the most well attended tournament in all of online poker. Nearly 6K fewer players turned out this week for the tournament, though Super Bowl Sunday in the United States might have had an impact. Nevertheless, there were 32,919 players with the $10 + $1 buy-in, all eying the $250K guarantee. And the registration numbers were still enough to put the prize pool past its guarantee and land at $329,190. That was enough to guarantee payouts for the top 5,400 players, and at the final table, there were four players taking home five-figure sums of cash. But when the last cards were dealt, it was thenurgler who beat ziNgZang10 to grab the $27K first place amount.

1st place:    thenurgler ($27,282.06)
2nd place:    ziNgZang10 ($18,763.83)
3rd place:    SHACK83 ($13,825.98)
4th place:    antbex406 ($10,534.08)
5th place:    B1BAX ($7,242.18)
6th place:    joevdbeek ($3,950.28)
7th place:    Zart77 ($2,962.71)
8th place:    Osiris68 ($2,139.73)
9th place:    desmarc ($1,563.65)

Daily Eighty Grand Sunday Special

As players find out about the special edition of the Daily Eighty Grand on Sundays, they flock to the tables because of the reasonable $50 + $5 buy-in and special $200K guarantee. This week, a total of 5,663 players registered to take their shot at the prize pool, which was pushed up to $283,150 because of the stellar turnout. While the top five players were able to take their $55 and turn it into five figures, it was giorgi4 who defeated RaineTech to grab the ultimate $35K first prize.

1st place:    giorgi4 ($35,679.54)
2nd place:    RaineTech ($24,634.05)
3rd place:    hlamberg ($16,705.85)
4th place:    peposfc ($13,874.35)
5th place:    favoritpoker ($11,042.85)
6th place:    Blary’s ($8,211.35)
7th place:    plouky16 ($5,379.85)
8th place:    Donk Crusher ($3,397.80)
9th place:    CosinusPiR ($1,982.05)

Sunday Million

After last week’s record setting Sunday Million with more than 19K players and a prize pool of more than $3.8 million, this week could have been an utter disappointment, but numbers were still strong on average. The $1.5 million guarantee brought 9,031 players to the tables with their $200 + $15 buy-ins ready to go, and the prize pool subsequently jumped to $1,806,200. The last 1,350 players standing cashed in, but it was, of course, at the final table that the last three players received six-figure payouts. The final two players came to a chip-chop agreement, and it took only a few hands from there for palurdo to defeat golferen50 and grab nearly $250K for the win.

1st place:    palurdo ($248,791.40)
2nd place:    golferen50 ($198,789.82)
3rd place:    jeanphidh74 ($134,471.59)
4th place:    GulahPapyrus ($90,310.00)
5th place:    H@££INGGOL ($72,248.00)
6th place:    blony_tair ($54,186.00)
7th place:     Phatigue ($36,124.00)
8th place:    MiguelPiper ($19,868.20)
9th place:    pimenta7 ($12,643.40)

Sunday 500
It was a respectable turnout for the high-stakes tournament on the Stars Sunday lineup, as the $500 + $50 buy-in event drew 1,013 players to the tables with the promise of a $500K guarantee. That number stands on most weeks, but the registration number this week pushed the prize pool to $506,500 for a little something extra. That money was distributed to the last 144 players standing, and when it came down to the final heads-up battle, Illini213 defeated FreeLancerZZ to grab more than $88K in first place money.

1st place:    Illini213 ($88,536.20)
2nd place:    FreeLancerZZ ($64,325.50)
3rd place:    bigdogpckt5s ($48,117.50)
4th place:    Romariopov ($35,961.50)
5th place:    Skammes ($25,325.00)
6th place:    andreyluis ($20,260.00)
7th place:    tuan001 ($15,195.00)
8th place:    PureCash25 ($10,130.00)
9th place:    Aguskb ($5,824.75)

Full Tilt Poker

The Sunday Brawl

It would be unfair to compare this week’s registration to that of the prior week, as double guarantees were for that one week only. This week saw the guarantee back to its normal but still impressive $400K, and for the $240 + $16 buy-in, players also had their usual opportunity to grab an extra $40 for every player they eliminated. The registration of 2,885 players took the prize pool up to $577,000, which made room for 279 players to cash from that pool. In the end, the final three players cut a deal for the remainder of the money, which ended up awarding more to losebigpots who finished in second place, though DedoDeGorila still took $83K and the title for winning the tournament.

1st place:    DedoDeGorila ($83,252.12)
2nd place:    losebigpots ($88,009.17)
3rd place:    possum808 ($77,425.71)
4th place:    THE__D__RY ($42,121.00)
5th place:    mrcool710 ($29,427.00)
6th place:    Dinhjo ($19,618.00)
7th place:    Every1s Problem ($13,271.00)
8th place:    kenpro111 ($9,232.00)
9th place:    breeth ($6,924.00)

$750K Guarantee
The biggest event of the Full Tilt offerings saw a bit of a dip in the numbers, though the $750K guaranteed prize pool remained the same as usual. Only 3,542 players signed up to put their $200 + $16 into the mix, which prompted Full Tilt to add some funds to the pool to make the guarantee. The top 522 players were paid from it, and it was down to the final two when a deal was struck for two six-figure payouts. Then pokerNIRVana5 went on to defeat berkey11 to grab the top prize of $111K and the weekly title.

1st place:    PokerNIRVana5 ($111,037.50)
2nd place:    berkey11 ($102,000.00)
3rd place:    ASUpokerStar ($52,500.00)
4th place:    shhhookem ($41,400.00)
5th place:    DOOLfan ($31,050.00)
6th place:    mahowny ($23,025.00)
7th place:    vspaccloss ($17,250.00)
8th place:    miw210 ($13,500.00)
9th place:    onefingerortwo ($10,050.00)

The Sunday Mulligan
The Mulligan is a fan favorite, one that players go to because they’re used to it and it’s there. And it doesn’t hurt that it carries with it a $200K guarantee. There were 1,175 players willing to pony up the $200 + $16 to take a chance at it this week, though only 135 of them received any part of it when all was said and done. And when it came to the final table action and the last two players standing, a deal was made between them for the bulk of the prize money. Ultimately, noirduck defeated Try_Tilt_Me to grab the larger of the two sums, which was $48K and the title.

1st place:    noirduck ($48,257.68)
2nd place:    Try_Tilt_Me ($36,342.32)
3rd place:    UFman2 ($23,793.75)
4th place:    Yaoling ($19,093.75)
5th place:    nirvana2126 ($14,405.50)
6th place:    kasapis112 ($10,575.00)
7th place:    darrenelias ($6,815.00)
8th place:    mbr1121 ($4,935.00)
9th place:    igivyaagamble ($3,525.00)

$200K Double Deuce
Finally, it was the most popular of all of the Full Tilt Sunday events, where the low buy-in of only $20 + $2 garners the chance at part of the $200K guarantee. But for reasons only speculative - possibly the Super Bowl - only 9,649 players came out for the tournament, which was a significantly lower number than most weekends. Full Tilt had to toss some extra money into the prize pool to make it an even $200K, and that left payouts for the last 1,350 players in the tournament. In the end, schappuscha was able to defeat HANFRY83 to take down the $31K top prize.

1st place:    schappuscha ($31,000.00)
2nd place:    HANFRY83 ($21,000.00)
3rd place:    02 obZen 02 ($14,800.00)
4th place:    1yank1966 ($10,640.00)
5th place:    Thibavol ($7,800.00)
6th place:    frucile ($5,600.00)
7th place:    Billy Ripken ($4,000.00)
8th place:    bigdumbe ($2,860.00)
9th place:    youhve0chance ($2,022.00)

UltimateBet

$200K Guaranteed

For two weeks running, the weekly $200K Guaranteed was off the schedule due to the excitement surrounding the UltimateBet Online Championships (UBOC). But February 7th marked its return to the weekly lineup, and there were 951 players up for the challenge. All of those $200 + $15 buy-ins didn’t quite tally up to the $200K guaranteed, however, so UltimateBet added a few thousand dollars to make up the difference and provide an overlay for the players. When all was said and done, payouts went to the top 90 finishers, and JP OSU and YANKEE47 battled for the weekly title. The latter came out on top and was listed as winning nearly $45K for the victory.

1st place:    YANKEE47 ($44,920.00)
2nd place:    JP OSU ($26,900.00)
3rd place:    HARDBALL747 ($18,300.00)
4th place:    WAMMERMOUTH ($12,900.00)
5th place:    BEMCD ($10,900.00)
6th place:    JHOPPERGT ($8,900.00)
7th place:    JUNGLERAS ($6,900.00)
8th place:    EEEVEEE ($4,900.00)
9th place:    TEAMPQ ($3,400.00)

Bodog

$100K Guaranteed

After a solid turnout last week for the big weekly Sunday event, the $100K Guaranteed saw a dip in the number of players this week. The first Sunday in February saw only 430 players register for the tournament, and after the $150 + $12 buy-ins were calculated, Bodog added the rest of the money to the prize pool to make it $100K even. Out of that money, there were 63 players paid, but it was at the final table that the action got even more exciting. Jon “PearlJammer” Turner made an appearance there, ultimately finishing in seventh place. And it was 170mmachamp who ended up defeating quietwinner to take the title and $25K first place prize money.

1st place:    170mmachamp ($25,000.00)
2nd place:    quietwinner ($15,000.00)
3rd place:    bergeroo ($9,500.00)
4th place:    soggyvag2 ($7,000.00)
5th place:    DeepJR ($5,500.00)
6th place:    UFPokerStar ($4,500.00)
7th place:    PearlJammer ($3,500.00)
8th place:    chastang ($2,200.00)
9th place:    horningt12 ($1,700.00)
