SUPER POKER SUNDAY 02/14: Registrations Down for Valentine’s Day and FTOPS

Many of the online poker tournaments on the February 14th Sunday found decreased registration numbers. Why? The most likely reason was because it was Valentine’s Day, a day that sitting alone at a computer instead of tending to a special significant other might have been frowned upon. There were clearly notable absences in the tournaments, so we’ll attribute it to love and leave it at that.

Some of the tournaments were even missing from the schedule, as Full Tilt Poker removed two of the Sunday regulars in lieu of FTOPS options for their players.

There were few recognizable names at any of the final tables this week, with the exception of Team PokerStars Pro JC Alvarado making it to eighth place in the Sunday 500 on PokerStars. Joe Sebok made his first cash in the $200K Guaranteed on UltimateBet, and the 37th place finish was the first for him as a UB-sponsored pro. But in the end, the amateurs dominated the night and took down hundreds of thousands of dollars for their efforts in the biggest tournaments of the week.

Sunday Warm-Up

The tournament went faster than usual. Quite possibly it had something to do with the decreased registration for the week. The Valentine’s Day Sunday Warm-Up found only 4,557 players this week, nearly 400 less than the prior week. But all still came with their $200 + $15 in hand, and the prize pool still shot way past the $750K guarantee to what would become a $911,400 prize pool. The last 675 players walked away with a profit for the tournament, but it was on to the speedy final table where two players were to leave with six-figure payouts. And the heads-up match between smacl01 and B DA cards took only one hand to see the former emerge victorious with a prize of nearly $143K.

1st place:    smacl02 ($142,982.61)
2nd place:    B DA cards ($106,178.10)
3rd place:    Catenaccio ($75,190.50)
4th place:    jimsweats ($51,494.10)
5th place:    kronkol ($38,734.50)
6th place:    mancrazy ($29,620.50)
7th place:    Bassduck ($20,506.50)
8th place:    heavenhell19 ($11,392.50)
9th place:    IPODpoker88 ($7,291.20)

Sunday 1/4 Million

This was another tournament that took a hit in the registration department. After a decrease of almost 6,000 players the week before, there was another dip of more than 1,000 this week. The $10 + $1 tournament is one of the best deals in poker with its $250K guarantee, and there were still 31,897 players in attendance, which pushed the prize pool up to $318,970. That allowed the final 5,400 players to cash out and make some money on Valentine’s Day, though the big money, as always, awaited the final table players. And when all was said and done, mims_87 defeated replay2010 to take down the $26K first place prize.

1st place:    mims_87 ($26,441.70)
2nd place:    replay2010 ($18,181.29)
3rd place:    bd3109 ($13,396.74)
4th place:    EburgRUS ($10,207.04)
5th place:    Shafeman ($7,017.34)
6th place:    robbys1 ($3,827.64)
7th place:    Crooky80 ($2,870.73)
8th place:    michto958/0 ($2,073.30)
9th place:    GabrielMoyaa ($1,515.10)

Daily Eighty Grand Sunday Special

One of the very few Sunday tournaments to see an increase in player registration was the special Sunday edition of the Daily Eighty Grand. The special version with its $200K guarantee brought 5,874 players to the tables, which was up more than 200 from the prior week. That allowed the prize pool to jump to $293,700, which was divided up amongst the final 855 players in accordance with their finishes. And at the final table, Nickdawgg and LStrelec battled for the $37K top prize and weekly title which ultimately went to the latter.

1st place:    LStelec ($37,006.20)
2nd place:    Nickdawgg ($25,551.90)
3rd place:    BadBeatXOXO ($17,328.30)
4th place:    MisterJonL ($14,391.30)
5th place:    2outerjames ($11,454.30)
6th place:    Pghfan987 ($8,517.30)
7th place:    inwooke ($5,580.30)
8th place:    brainwash ($3,524.40)
9th place:    7DeLuX7 ($2,055.90)

Sunday Million
The biggest tournament of all of the Sunday majors even took a hit this week, seeing its number drop from over 9K last week to only 8,341 this week. But the Sunday Million with its $1.5 million guarantee still surpassed that number, as all of the $200 + $15 buy-ins added up to a sizable $1,668,200 prize pool. The last 1,260 players in the event got paid, but it was at the rather speedy final table that Blompf and oldrich88 tangled for the title. The duo ultimately came to a chip-chop agreement, then Blompf went on to defeat oldrich88 to grab more than $227K for the victory.

1st place:    Blompf ($227,757.02)
2nd place:    oldrich88 ($196,971.38)
3rd place:    iownoknp ($125,115.00)
4th place:    Ramewa38 ($83,410.00)
5th place:    qsf84 ($66,728.00)
6th place:    Profesoras ($50,046.00)
7th place:    Saygoodbye40 ($33,364.00)
8th place:    13sneik13 ($18,350.20)
9th place:    Catafract80 ($12,928.55)

Sunday 500
While many tournaments saw fluctuating registration numbers, the high stakes event of the PokerStars Sunday lineup was solid, even seeing a bit of an increase over the previous week’s numbers. The $500 + $50 buy-in event that boasted of a $500K guarantee found 1,070 interested players, which pushed the prize pool even higher to where it landed at $535,000. Out of the field, only 153 players were able to cash out for a profit, and it was at the final table that significant five-figure payouts awaited. Team PokerStars Pro JC Alvarado made it all the way to eighth place before elimination, and it was KGBkaka and thechemist83 who battled for the top prize of $92K, which ultimately went to KGBkaka.

1st place:    KGBkaka ($92,341.00)
2nd place:    thechemist83 ($66,875.00)
3rd place:    Believer82 ($50,825.00)
4th place:    Francix ($37,236.00)
5th place:    RaineTech ($26,482.50)
6th place:    Mikey0690 ($21,132.50)
7th place:    FU_15 ($15,782.50)

The Sunday Brawl

In lieu of tournament opportunities presented by the 15th installment of the Full Tilt Online Poker Series (FTOPS), the Sunday Brawl was canceled this week to allow players to compete for bigger prize pools and major tournament titles.

$750K Guarantee
The second tournament scratched from the Sunday lineup was the $750K Guarantee, as players were given opportunities to compete in FTOPS XV instead.

The Sunday Mulligan
The first of the two usual Sunday tournaments on the schedule this week allowed players to buy in to the Sunday Mulligan for $200 + $16 for the chance at a $200K guarantee. There were 1,366 takers, which pushed the actual prize pool up to $273,200, which was distributed amongst the last 135 players standing. And in the end, Poostabber19 and DonkCommited got into a heated battle for a seat in the winner’s circle, but the former retained his lead and took down the $60K for first place.

9th place:    JLizard ($4,098.00)

$200K Double Deuce
One of the two regular Sunday events left on the schedule was the ever-popular Double Deuce, which boasts of a massive $200K guarantee for the low buy-in of $20 + $2. There was an increase in the number of players up for the challenge this week, as 10,473 of them took to the tables and prompted the prize pool to climb a bit further to $209,460. There were payouts reserved for the last 1,350 players standing, but it was down to two players before a deal for the last of the money was made, which led to the final dual and Jasonrisc beating SuWu420 for the title and more than $29K.

1st place:    Jasonrisc ($29,459.60)
2nd place:    SuWu420 ($25,000.00)
3rd place:    dajatt13 ($15,500.04)

UltimateBet

$200K Guaranteed

The numbers were up significantly in UB’s big Sunday tournament, as 1,096 players signed up for a shot at their portion of the $200K guarantee. When all of the $200 + $15 buy-ins were tabulated, the prize pool had jumped a bit to land at $219,200, and that number guaranteed payouts for the last 108 players standing. One of them happened to be UB-sponsored player Joe Sebok, who cashed for the first time since joining the UB Pro Team, taking home $832.96 for the 37th place finish. But it was on to the final table where BEARBEER outlasted TOOHOTTOTROT to grab more than $48K for the win.

1st place:    BEARBEER ($48,202.08)
2nd place:    TOOHOTTOTROT ($28,430.24)

Bodog

$100K Guaranteed

The big Sunday event on Bodog saw an increase in the number of players this week, with exactly 50 more than the prior week. There were 480 players looking to compete for the $100K guarantee, and when the $150 + $12 buy-ins were tallied, Bodog contributed the remainder to give players an overlay and an even $100K prize pool. The last 63 of the players in the tournament were paid, and when the final table was reduced to only two players, it was Rataveli who outlasted slatehill4 to take the $25K top prize and weekly title.
