Online Poker Room Roundup: Get Your Ticket To The Big Time (And The Big Slopes)

Lots of seats are available this week around the online poker world.

And that includes a seat on a ski lift.

PokerStars
appears to be throwing some extra fun stuff at poker players to get them to attend the next event on the EPT. Why? Well, you probably heard about EPT Berlin last week, when an armed robbery pushed a routine poker tournament into the mainstream press.

No one was hurt in the robbery, but it did make things a little scarier for anyone who plays live poker. Robberies have always been a part of the game, especially in the older days, but at a major poker tournament? This is not the Wild West.

Anyway, PokerStars is moving on by putting on EPT Snowfest in the Austrian Alps with a twist. Anyone who wins their package on PokerStars - and if you want to play in this, you really should, as the satellites are much cheaper - you'll also get ski passes to the nearby slopes.

The action starts March 21 so hop on as soon as possible and play now to get your seat.

Party Poker is offering seats, too, but only to boring events like, you know, the World Series of Poker or the World Poker Tour.

OK I'm obviously kidding (though I do love to ski), but the good news is if you do manage to win a seat to those events and win some money there, you could buy your own lift ticket.

PartyPoker started offering seats last week, and they start with daily freerolls, meaning you can win a $14,000 WSOP seat package for nothing. Nothing!

Satellites run every Friday and Sunday for $700 + $50. I prefer the nothing to paying this much, but then again, one in 20 players will win a package. That's some pretty nice odds.

You can check it all out by downloading PartyPoker through PokerWorks now. You'll get $50 free and the chance to win those seats. PokerWorks, of course, offers downloads to all the poker rooms listed here as well as dozens of others.

Titan Poker seems to be celebrating a new look - at least on the Web site - by putting up a ton of new seats to the Irish Open. You can qualify for these seats for less than 40 cents around the clock.

The Irish Open takes place starting April 1. You can at least try to nab a seat so you don't look like a fool. Get it? Sometimes I don't know what to do with all this humor.

OK, I'm moving on from winning seats to trying to give back a little. Poker players can be some of the most charitable folks out there - heck, last year I was REALLY charitable to my opponents - and Absolute Poker is proving it.

The site just played its first Second Sunday charity tournament for the San Antonio AIDS Foundation. This series will take place every second Sunday afternoon with a $10 buy-in. There is no fee, and 100 percent of the prize pool is matched by Absolute Poker.

A different charity will benefit from this every second Sunday of every month. Absolute hasn't had the best history with poker players with its cheating scandal, but this is another way that Absolute Poker is proving itself.

OK, now let's have a little fun, shall we? Joining a poker site means more than playing tournaments and cash games all the time. Sometimes it means railbirding. That can be your friends, or it can be sticking your nose against the glass surrounding the biggest games online today.

Yeah, we're talking about Isildur1 again on Full Tilt Poker. How can you not? The biggest mystery in poker right now managed to win $575,000 last week despite losing $1.8 million on March 10, according to Full Tilt's blog.

Winning $1.9 million the day before can help with that.

I guess that puts my recent $75 win the other night after a rough couple of weeks to shame.

Hey, at least I can afford a ski lift ticket again.
