Splashing the Pot – Tom Dwan “Rounders 2”, Isildur1 Appearing in Public…More

Splashing the Pot captures the foam created by the disturbance and turbulence of action, action, action, and is filled with tidbits above and beyond the victories and beats and adds a little spice to the game of poker.

Full Tilt Blog has a Little April Fools Fun

While it’s true that there is going to be a “Rounders 2”, it is nothing more than an April fool’s joke that Tom Dwan is appearing in the film.  It seems one of the writers of the Full Tilt blog decided to have a little fun saying Dwan had been penciled in for a “key role.”

The blog goes on to superimpose Tom Dwan’s head on the character “Teddy KGB” from the original “Rounders,” just in case you weren’t quite able to tell if the author was joking yet.
So yes, it is confirmed “Rounders 2” is coming out.  But no, Dwan doesn’t have a key role in the movie.  Sorry railbirds.

Isildur1 Playing PartyPoker Big Game IV

In news that may be even less unbelievable than Dwan appearing in a feature film, it appears that the mysterious online high stakes cash game player “Isildur1” will be part of the televised PartyPoker Big Game IV table.

PartyPoker sponsored pro and PokerNews founder Tony G had already reportedly been responsible for getting “Isildur1” back in the game after he went busto towards the end of the year, and he will also be funding his appearance on this show.
Additionally there is talk swirling if “Isildur1” will be wearing some sort of disguise, or if he will be playing as “himself.”  One suggestion for a costume he could wear is the Kermit the Frog ensemble Tony G wore during the PartyPoker Premier League.  Tony G is on record saying that if he wants to wear a mask he can, but that apparently he is seriously considering revealing himself to the world.

Robbers Steal $240,000 From Swiss Casino

Just hours after the last edition of “Splashing the Pot” made its way to the front page of PokerWorks, another casino robbery took place.  With news still fresh of the EPT robbery, and then of the Texas robbery, a gang of robbers overtook a Swiss Casino, taking approximately $240,000 in the heist.

The Basel Grand Casino is located just minutes from the France border, and that is where the culprits are believed to have come by.  Ten burglars, arriving in silver Audis, stormed the casino, and fired multiple warning shots into the air with their machine guns.  While a few men attempted to break down the safe, a number of other men began grabbing all the cash and chips they could as terrified casino goers searched for cover.  Apparently the men were physical with some of the gamblers, but fortunately little more than minor injuries were reported.
The men were reportedly seen driving back into the France as they fled.  Both French and Swiss police forces have opened investigations into the robbery.

Ante Up For Africa Coming to Washington D.C.

The popular “Ante Up For Africa” charity tournament will be making its way to Washington D.C. on April 14.  While just steps away from Congress, who is busy putting online regulations into place, the Hyatt Regency hotel will be hosting this tournament in association with the “Poker Players Alliance.”

Co-Founders Annie Duke and Don Cheadle will be sharing co-hosting duties with Senator Robert Menendez and Representative Jim McDermott, both supporters of the PPA.

The entrance fee is $500, with all proceeds going to the “Ante Up For Africa” cause.  The winner of this event will earn a free seat to the 2010 World Series of Poker Main Event.

Mike “Timex” McDonald Taking Break from Poker

Mike “Timex” McDonald has been one of the better online tournament players for the last few years, and in the last couple years has started to make a name for himself on the tournament circuit despite not yet being 21 years old.  In a blog he announced that he is taking an extended break from poker that could turn into a longer one.  He also says that he doubts he can ever straight up “quit” poker, but that at the current time he has no ambition to play.

It seems a number of online poker players have hit a wall lately, with the biggest name being Shaun Deeb.  However, Deeb went on a pretty public downswing, both online and in live play.  McDonald on the other hand has continued to run well, particularly in live events, where he already has over $500,000 in cashes this year.  His third place showing in the European Poker Tour’s Deauville Main Event just three months ago garnered him his biggest cash yet of $417,610.

McDonald has been realistic with his prospects of returning, saying that his return would be a “heavy favorite” but showed that he wants to pursue other interests outside of poker.  He suggests he may return to school, but has very little interest in what kind of degree he would earn, and would more go just to learn more about the world.  He also said he has a business idea with a friend he could see himself getting really into.
McDonald explains to his readers that this is not an April fool’s joke.  Much like people predicted Deeb would be back in short order (he hasn’t, for the most part) people are saying the same about McDonald in poker forum land.
