Online Poker Room Roundup: Time To Hit The Tournaments

When March Madness ends - and it has, given that it's now mid-April - I usually tune out sports for a while.

But I'll pay a little extra attention this June.

It's World Cup time.

Now I realize some of you probably follow soccer (sorry, um, futbol or football) pretty closely, but I view soccer as I do swimming, figure skating or skiing. It's a wonderful sport, but I really only watch it every four years.

When the Olympics are on, those are some of my favorite sports. I'm all over them. I can't miss them, actually. But as soon as the flame dies, I don't watch a lick.

Soccer's the same way for me. When the World Cup comes around, I'm all about it. And now PokerStars apparently is too.

PokerStars is giving away a unique package, a chance to see your favorite team play in one of the greatest world sporting events outside of the Olympics.

The site is giving away 30 prize packages to the World Cup with the PokerStars Soccer Safari, which includes hospitality match tickets (great seats, in other words) and $7,000 in cash for travel and expenses (and one of those huge No. 1 foam souvenir hands).

There's two packages, the Global, where you and a guest will follow your team in every game it plays (and tickets to a match in a subsequent round if your team bows out early, which protects us U.S.A. fans), and the National , where you'll follow your home team in its first three group matches if it plays in South Africa.

To win, you'll have to play in a Grand Final tournament, where a package will be the top prize. There are 30 tournaments. You can earn an invite by earning 750 VPPs (player points) in April or by finishing in the top nine of an hourly satellite tournament. They cost either nothing, 10 FPPS or $1.10. A Grand Final is also $11.

There's still plenty of time to get in on the biggest tournament of the year, only you don't have to kick a ball around to participate. Yep, we're back to poker, and what's bigger than the World Series of Poker?

As usual, just about every online site has a way to get you there, and these are two of the better opportunities. The first is from Poker770, which is giving away 47 packages to the WSOP.

You can qualify for a Main Event package worth $13,000 for as little as 25 cents. The package includes seven nights at the Wynn, travel money and the buy-in.

There's also an Sit n' Go Executive Jackpot, where if you win six WSOP Sit n Go's in a row, you'll win a $25,000 package to the Main Event and entry into a side event. The package also includes $2,000 for an Executive Perks package, which includes two tickets to the Beatles LOVE Cirque Du Soleil, a helicopter trip across Vegas and dinner to the Wynn's SW steakhouse.

Finally, starting April 16 you can get a $13,000 package to the Pot-Limit Championship for just 48 cents. There aren't many events that will send you to that event, so take advantage of this one.

Titan Poker is also offering a package to the WSOP that will give you a taste of the high life. I guess an entry into a $10,000 tournament isn't enough these days. It would be for me. Just saying. Anyway, this package includes 13 nights at the Parlor Suite of the Wynn, a side event from June 30 - July 13 and $7,000 for airfare and spending money in addition to the Main Event buy-in.

Plus you'll get the same perks as Poker 770's package, such as tickets to the show, the helicopter trip and dinner. And you'll need to win those six tournaments in a row, too, though the buy-in is $10 + $2, so you can keep playing for a while.

Titan's also offering a super satellite promotion, where you'll win a Main Event package that includes money for a side event and a $550 buy-in that gives you a shot at a WSOP Main Event seat. Satellites for these events are less than 50 cents.

All this talk of the high life's got me dreaming of a taste. I know I just said I didn't need that, but….well - OK-  it'd be nice, right? Full Tilt Poker has a way to get you there, or at least get you started down that road.

How about a shot on TV? You can win your way to TV's newest poker show, "The Poker Lounge." All you do is battle Full Tilt Poker pros for a winner-takes-all prize of $120,000.

"Poker After Dark" hosted a couple of these tournaments with average folks like you and me, so that's probably where they got the idea. Anyway, as you thought, you can qualify for the show and win a $22,000 prize package. The next qualifier is April 18, with a $600 + $40 buy-in. Qualifiers will be running until July 4. You can, of course, satellite your way in for as little as $10 - and those are running now.

If you want a shot, simply download Full Tilt, or any other poker game, for free right here at PokerWorks and get some other cool bonuses for making a deposit.

This month Ultimate Bet's offering you a chance to win some extra cash; 10 tournaments a day; $10 a tournament. You'll earn tournament leaderboard points toward the Perfect 10 Leaderboard. And the end of the month, UB will take your 10 best finishes.

The higher you rank, the more money you win, and if you find yourself at the top, you'll earn a cool $20,000.

There are a lot of tournaments to be played, and SCOOP at PokerStars hasn't even started yet. But we'll talk about that next time.
