Online Poker Room Roundup: Your Ticket To The Big Game

There's a debate swirling around poker, and it has nothing to do with whether online gaming is either fine and dandy or Satan's way to capture all of our souls.

This debate is simpler.

Is poker a sport?

You'll see that debate linked occasionally with other activities. Quite frankly I don't care about it. Poker is fun. That's all I know.

But online poker WILL get you to some of the greatest sporting events. So even if poker isn't a sport, it can help you get there.

The first is put on by Ultimate Bet, and it's a Main Event, May 30, that awards the winner the Ultimate Prize Package, including two tickets to attend the UFC 115 in Vancouver. Tickets for this June 12 event set a new record for the fastest sellout in UFC history, as a legend, Chuck "The iceman" Liddell" is back fighting former UFC Middleweight champion Rich "Ace" Franklin. You'll also get $1,000 for travel expenses.

Players can participate in four daily freerolls scheduled at 12 p.m., 3 p.m., 6 p.m. and 9 p.m. Eastern Time to qualify for the event, so you don't even have to pay anything to enter, as the top 50 in each freeroll will get a shot.

Get to it now, as these freerolls last until May 29.

A couple of online sites are also hoping to send you to perhaps the biggest sporting event in the world this year. That's the World Cup 2010 in South Africa. Make an initial deposit into Absolute Poker and you'll get entered into 33 freerolls and $50,000 in total prizes, including a $14,000 World Soccer package.

That $20,000 freeroll takes place on June 5, and the winner takes home the prize package, with the other 99 splitting $9,000 in cash.

Titan Poker's also got a way to get you to the World Cup. The 40 players who play the most raked hands between May 23-31 get entered into a MTT on June 2. If you win that, you'll be on your way to South Africa for a $10,000 prize package.

Raked hands for this promotion are from the Big Blind of 50 cents and up and applies to No-Limit Holdem only.

Package dates are for the July 8-12 World Cup finals.

If you think poker IS a sport, then Full Tilt's got the sporting event for you. You've heard of the World Series of Poker, perhaps? Just the name alone implies sport, and ESPN shows quite a bit of it.

Now Full Tilt lets you get in on the action. Yeah, we know. We've talked about every promotion from just about every online site to get you to the WSOP. Quit rolling your eyes. You have to admit that's pretty cool.

But in this case, the Mini Series of Poker is all on Full Tilt. You'll get all 57 events of the WSOP for 1/100th of the buy-in, meaning you can get WSOP action for as little as $5.50.

The action starts May 28 and goes until July 4, when the Main Event, a $100 + $9 No-Limit Holdem tournament with a $600,000 guarantee.

Not only that, but if you DO find yourself at the top of this series leaderboard, you can win a free seat to the 2011 WSOP Main Event.

With more than $3 million guaranteed for this event , and Full Tilt champion's watches for each winner, you need in on this sporting action.

In fact Pokerworks can help you in many ways. One is a $100,000 freeroll from Players Only, where the winner will take home $20,000. And all poker players are invited, even those from the U.S.  Nice!

This is to celebrate the new poker room, Play Aces.

To qualify, play in the daily Freeroll Qualifiers, which are running up until May 28. Once you qualify there, you'll play in the final qualifier on May 29, and if you finish in the top 500, you've got your seat to the Freeroll Main Event.

You can also get your way into other, easier qualifiers by playing as a real money player and earning the small amount of 150 VIP points. Or you can buy in with 500 VIP points.

You can download this new software, along with any other software listed here, for free on PokerWorks. There are many exclusive offers for doing so and making a deposit.

Finally, PokerStars is in on this too. You probably guessed that. But this is an interesting promotion to get you a seat to one of the best sporting events in the world.

That's right. A visit to Mount Everest.

Oh, don't give me that face. A 13-year-old just climbed it. You're older than that, right? So you can do it too. And mountain climbing is a sport, or else we're gonna have some fighting words. How do you think I got my name?

This promotion won't take you to the top, but if you win the May 30 tournament with a buy-in of only $1.10, you'll get an all-expenses paid trip to the Mount Everest Base Camp to meet Willy Benegas and his twin brother Damien.

PokerStars is sponsoring the brothers' trip up Everest. The two climbed Everest on May 23. It was Willie's 10th time up the peak, an incredible number when one ascent is a lifetime achievement.

If you're lame and decide not to make the trip, you'll win $2,500. But this trip, like these sporty promotions, can't be passed up, so get going today.
