London Dates Set for 2010 WSOP Europe

As the 2010 World Series of Poker got underway in Las Vegas, Harrah’s Entertainment, Inc. organizers behind the scenes were preparing to announce details of the WSOP Europe events scheduled for September in London. With an extra event added this year and satellites now being offered at WSOP.com, there are several notable changes in store for this fall’s WSOPE series.

The schedule itself is significant because it offers five events, one being a new £10K buy-in high roller heads-up tournament, which will be the highest heads-up tournament ever held in Europe. There is also a short-handed NLHE tournament in place of the PLHE/PLO mixed event but it keeps the £2,500 buy-in and actually kicks off the action instead of the two-day £1K buy-in that was the first event of 2009. The schedule of bracelet events is as follows:

•    9/14/10 - Event 1 £2,500 + £150 Six-Handed No-Limit Hold’em (3 days)
•    9/16/10 - Event 2 £5,000 + £250 Pot-Limit Omaha (3 days)
•    9/17/10 - Event 3 £1,000 + £75 No-Limit Hold’em (5 days)
•    9/21/10 - Event 4 £10,000 + £350 No-Limit Hold’em High Roller Heads-Up (3 days)
•    9/24/10 - Event 5 £10,000 + £350 No-Limit Hold’em WSOPE World Championship (5 days)

The location will stay the same, as the tournaments will be held at the Casino at the Empire at Leicester Square in London, England, which does not require a club membership for admission. With the casino now open 24-hours a day and satellites already running for the WSOP Europe, there won’t be a dull moment before the September 14-28 events. Players can also pre-register for the events at the Empire or any of the London Clubs International establishments in the UK, or at the Rio All-Suites Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas. And during the WSOP Europe events in September, there will be cash games running around the clock.

Speaking of satellites, WSOP.com is offering real money satellites for UK residents, and qualifiers can win seats into any of the events being offered at the 2010 WSOPE. And for the first year since its inception, there will be no partnership with Betfair, nor is the WSOPE presented by Betfair, as the contract ended and Harrah’s decided to use its own websites, like WSOP.com, CaesarsCasino.com, and CaesarsBingo.com for publicity because of the natural affiliation with and the promotion of those websites.

WSOP Vice President Ty Stewart commented, “We are really excited about the 2010 schedule for WSOP Europe. The WSOPE has found its place as a tournament about prestige, where the best of the best come together to play poker. We think the new heads-up event will resonate with the world’s top players and the six-handed event is something that is becoming synonymous with the WSOP.”

London Clubs International CEO Michael Silberling added, “We are so excited to welcome the top poker players from all over the world to WSOPE 2010 - Europe’s most prestigious poker tournament and the only event outside of Las Vegas at which players can win a coveted WSOP bracelet. This is the fourth year we have hosted the event at Casino at the Empire, which has rapidly become London’s premier poker venue, and we have every expectation that the 2010 event will be bigger and better than ever before.”

The 2010 WSOP Europe will likely be filmed for later television broadcast, as the 2009 events were shown on the ESPN network in the United States and Channel 4 in the UK, though no mention of 2010 broadcast plans were noted in the press release.
