What They’re Playing

EPT Vienna:
A new stop has been added to the seventh season of the European Poker Tour, as EPT Vienna was added to the list. The length of time between the London and Barcelona stops seemed unduly long, but it turns out that PokerStars was working with the Concord Card Casino to solidify plans to travel there. The dates are October 26 to November 1, and the buy-in will be a somewhat standard €5,300 for the Main Event. The historic Kursalon Palace will host the festivities, but players should note the 600-max on the seating in the casino, meaning the time to make reservations is soon.

LAPT Brazil:  South America is the place to be this week, as the PokerStars-sponsored Latin American Poker Tour hits the beautiful city of Florianopolis in Brazil on August 5. The LAPT stop is the last before the grand finale of Season 3 in Argentina in September. The four-day event in Brazil will feature a $2,700 buy-in Main Event at the Costao do Santinho establishment, and players will compete for hundreds of thousands of dollars in prize money to go with the coveted LAPT title.

Who’s Playing

Andreas Torbergsen:
Better known online as Skjervoy, Andreas Torbergson recently signed on as a CardRunners pro instructor, and as part of the CardRunners/Full Tilt Poker agreement, he will also be listed as a Red Pro on the FTP site. He has been declared one of the best pot-limit Omaha players in the world, and the University of Norway student will now show CardRunners members how he climbed into the high-stakes PLO world and how he continues to benefit from his skills there. When not studying and playing his own games, he will be making videos for his new partner in online poker, CardRunners.

Liz Lieu:  One of the players in the poker industry most known for her charity work, Liz Lieu will be partnering with friend and part-time poker player Shannon Elizabeth this fall for a charity mission in Nicaragua. Feed the Children is one of the most well-known organizations that helps underprivileged people around the world, and Lieu and Elizabeth will be assisting in an aid mission this August in one of the poorest nations in the hemisphere. Though Lieu looks to return to Vietnam to help people in her home country in the coming months, her immediate focus is Nicaragua.

Where They’re Playing

Cake Poker:
It seems that the recent security glitch is in the process of being fixed. Poker Table Ratings recently detected a network encryption problem with Cake Poker, similar to the one found with UB Poker in the past months, wherein players on unsecured networks were vulnerable to hacks who could not only view their player account information, but their hole cards as well. Almost immediately, the site’s cardroom manager, Lee Jones, issued a statement regarding the problem and noted that an SSL layer to its coding was being added immediately. PTR did confirm that the glitch was in the process of being fixed and verification of that was being conducted.
