Time is flying by as the 17th
Full Tilt Online Poker Series speeds through its twelve days of poker action. FTOPS XVII only began on August 4, but it is quickly zooming past the halfway mark of its 34-tournament run. With only a few days left to get in on the action, it only makes sense to look at some of the winners and prizes established thus far.
FTOPS XVII got off to a roaring start on August 4 with its first tournament. The $200 + $16 no-limit holdem event had a guarantee of $750K, but when registration landed at 4,591 players, that boosted the prize pool to $918,200. And when it was complete, Brent “Broberts85” Roberts had his second FTOPS victory and more than $164K for the most recent one. It was quite the way for Full Tilt to kick off its series. And it only took a few more days to find another well-known champion, as one of FTP’s own red pros -
Brandon Adams - took down Event 14 on August 9, taking his first FTOPS win in the $200 + $16 limit Omaha hi/lo tournament for nearly $40K.
What is most impressive to many poker fans, however, is the number of poker players who are just now making names for themselves with FTOPS wins. Nolez7 won almost $51K for Event 2, BacoPride almost $42K for Event 4, and FlopeDeNuts more than $131K for Event 5. A good number of the series winners have not claimed such a score in the past, and some of them studied the game, put in their hours of practice, and won potentially life-changing money for their work. That is the inspiration that many can take away from FTOPS.
When the series began less than a week ago, the cumulative guarantee for FTOPS was set at $19 million, but with half of the tournaments already in the books, the figures show that all but one of the first 17 events went over their individual guarantees because of stellar attendance figures. Those first 17 events awarded $9,225,120 in prize money, and it looks as if FTOPS XVII will easily end up awarding more than $20 million when it’s complete.
Players from all over the world are getting in on the action, and the most interesting part of it all is that most of them are not paying the full buy-in prices. Satellites are running around the clock for events still on the schedule, and players can win their seats into these events for a fraction of the buy-in. It allows players of all bankrolls to play with some of the best players in the world. And keeping in mind that the majority of winners are not well-known pros, the odds are in the amateurs’ favor.
There are still a few days left, including the finale weekend, to get in on the FTOPS action.
