Touted to be the most spectacular of all the events scheduled at the 2011 PokerStars Caribbean Adventure, the amfAR Charity Event promises to be your opportunity to join the stars - stars of sports and poker and entertainment - and raise money for a great cause. PokerStars has teamed up with HIV/AIDS awareness organization amfAR, The Foundation for AIDS Research, and center stage is a star-studded charity poker tournament that is part of the PokerStars Caribbean Adventure Festival of Poker that is held in the Bahamas at the Atlantis. Any donation made by players on the day of the celebrity tournament will be matched by PokerStars.
“We cannot overstate the value and important of your generosity. We believe that if we make the right investments today, we can conquer HIV in our lifetime,” said the founder of amfAR, fashion designer Kenneth Cole.
Last year's event brought in the entertainment stars such as Slash, Nelly, Playboy Playmate Jayde Nicole, Montel Williams, and Kelly Rowland. Spencer Benjafield, a British online qualifier, took down first place and donated part of his $37,500 first prize to amfAR. The 2011 event already has Team PokerStars Pros Daniel Negreanu and Vanessa Rousso, tennis legend Boris Becker, French rugby player Sebastien Chabal, and PokerStars sponsored sports stars like NHL star and Olympic gold medalist Mats Sundin set to play.
The entry into the amfAR Charity Tournament is by invite only. The Charity Tournament takes place at the PCA on Thursday, January 13th at 18:00 ET and all PokerStars players will be given a chance to win an invite in a prize draw when they register for the PCA Main Event seat. Start playing satellites at PokerStars so you can enjoy the whole show.
