With two events left in the current record breaking Season IX, coupled with the massive field of 433 players that turned out to make the WPT Seminole Hard Rock Showdown (the first major poker event ever held in the State of Florida), such a huge success, the World Poker Tour (WPT) is getting a jump on the up-and-coming Season X by announcing three new tournaments set to take place in North Florida.
"Florida is a growing poker market with a huge imprint on the U.S. poker scene. The WPT is focused on growth and we are very excited about our new stops in North Florida," said WPT CEO Steve Heller. "The Jacksonville Poker Room promises to be one of the preeminent poker rooms in the country. Jacksonville Greyhound Racing & Poker's commitment to providing world class service to players is exactly what WPT was looking for when selecting a home for a new event. We look forward to a long and fruitful partnership."
"Jacksonville Greyhound Racing & Poker could not be more excited to join forces with WPT," said Executive Director of Poker Operations, Deborah Giardina. "Large-scale, large buy-in events are new to Florida. We are committed to remaining a market leader during this Florida poker boom. To that end, we sought out the best in class poker partner - the WPT- to help us build a world-class series of poker events."
The WPT welcomes Jacksonville Greyhound Racing & Poker as its newest partner and the Jacksonville Poker Rooms as host sites of a televised WPT Main Event and one Regional Event during the Season X schedule. The first ever $10,000 buy-in event in Florida was hosted at the WPT Seminole Hard Rock Showdown. In forming this new partnership with Jacksonville Greyhound Racing & Poker, the WPT acquires a foothold in both north and south Florida, positioning them as the dominate poker force in the explosive market of live poker tournaments. Look for event dates to be announced closer to the start of Season X. First to debut will be the first ever non-televised domestic Main Event; this event crowns an official WPT Champion, counts in the WPT Player of the Year Standings, and also awards the winner both a WPT trophy and a $25,000 buy-in to the Season X WPT World Championship.
Already housing over 70 poker tables at their Orange Park and St Johns’ Poker Rooms, Jacksonville Greyhound Racing & Poker is home to two of the largest poker rooms in the world. In addition the Jacksonville Poker Room, anticipated to open later this year, will be the largest and their crown jewel facility and will host a televised WPT Main Event in the spring of 2012.
