Poker Plus: Rebelling Against Online Poker Prohibition

Poker players WILL play poker, no matter how hard the government or anyone else tries to keep them from doing so. And so it is with all of us who live in America: Where there is a will there is a way – and we will find it.

The Volstead Act

Our government evidently didn’t learn anything from the events that transpired over 80 years ago. The "Volstead Act," the popular name for the National Prohibition Act, passed through Congress over President Woodrow Wilson's veto on October 28, 1919. The Volstead Act prohibiting the sale, manufacture, and transportation of alcohol was in place from 1920 to 1933 until President Franklin Roosevelt signed into law an amendment to the Volstead Act known as the Cullen-Harrison Act, allowing the manufacture and sale of certain kinds of alcoholic beverages. The history lesson our current administration should get through their heads is – Prohibition does not work, it just drives those who want to partake of the forbidden fruit elsewhere to find it.

US Poker Rooms

Being a dedicated poker player, I have been seeking out those few venues left that will allow me to taste the sweetest of forbidden fruit – online poker. At this time, there are few online poker rooms that still welcome US players; Carbon and ROXpoker are two of them, both sitting on the Merge Gaming Network.  To start with, Carbon Poker has a great FreeRoll schedule and they have recently upped the amount of free money they give out each month to $50,000. This alone is well worth signing up for at Carbon Poker!

Five Freerolls a day

There are five FreeRolls a day at Carbon Poker and everyone can play, even if you have never made a deposit. Each FreeRoll boasts a $200 prize pool and pays 24 places with the winner receiving $18 in cash and a $33 satellite ticket. The daily FreeRolls are as follows:

•    20:00 GMT (9 PM EST) NL Holdem
•    18:00 PL Omaha
•    12:00 H.O.R.S.E
•    6:00 NL Holdem
•    0:00 NL Holdem

The FreeRolls have a seven minute blind structure, a 1,000 starting stack and a maximum of 5,000 players. Since the FreeRolls are almost always full and there is no ‘Late Registration’ be sure to sign up early. From playing in these FreeRolls, it is interesting to note that I am not the only American rebelling against online poker prohibition; almost every table I have been seated at has an average of eight players out of nine who is from the USA.

Hurry to get a 35% rakeback deal

If you decide to sign up and make a deposit at Carbon Poker, the minimum is just $10 if you use one of the online e-wallet services or $20 if you use a VISA card. The deposit is well worth it because Carbon Poker has fantastic deals for new depositors. Of course it starts off with PokerWorks 200% sign-up and deposit bonus. But the great thing about signing up through PokerWorks isn’t just the deposit bonus but the 35% rakeback deal you will get for playing in cash games. But the Rackback deal ends June 1st, so if you want to get in on it, you need to sign-up at Carbon now! And as soon as you sign up at Carbon and make a deposit, you will be eligible to play in 14 freerolls worth $500 each – totaling $7,000 in FREE cash you get to play for!

The next deal you can get if you make a deposit is entering the Depositor Cash Chase when you play in cash games. When you first join Carbon Poker and deposit, you will be able to play in the individual 30-day Cash Chase. Race through an individual leaderboard for free cash where the more points you earn, the bigger your payout will be, from $5 up to $500.

But even if you are to gun-shy to make a deposit right now, you should check out Carbon Poker. Not only will you be supporting one of the few poker rooms that still welcome USA players, but you will be exercising your freedom of choice to play poker online while having fun and maybe winning some free cash.
